Israel-Gaza Megathread #2
This is a refreshed megathread for any posts on the conflict between (so far, and so far as I know) Hamas and the Israeli government, as well as related geopolitics. Culture War thread rules apply.
I've seen plenty of photos of people who look like they were shot, so probably, yeah.
The nature of the activities beyond that I actually have very little insight -- there's no reason to trust anything released by either party other than stuff that looks like it would be beyond their (respective) capability to easily fake, and very little of what I've seen comes from anything close to a disinterested bystander.
Not sure if this is some in-joke that I don't get. but there are reports of it being antagonistic, so maybe other people don't get this "joke" either. Whether its a joke or not, its not a good contribution, please don't do this.
It was antagonistic and I shouldn’t have said it. My emotions got the best of me but there seems like so many earnest denials of things we all saw on video it reminds me of Alex Jones and Sandy Hook.
This refers to Alex Jones and his denial of reality about Sandy Hook shooting - zeke was claiming that jkf is doing the same with "The nature of the activities beyond that I actually have very little insight" about Hamas.
There were more clear comments made by them elsewhere at that time.

Why are you called The Motte?
A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently,
it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey",
originally identified by
philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial
but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens
this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for
the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired
propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."
On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
