Small-Scale Question Sunday for December 8, 2024

Do you have a dumb question that you're kind of embarrassed to ask in the main thread? Is there something you're just not sure about?

This is your opportunity to ask questions. No question too simple or too silly.

Culture war topics are accepted, and proposals for a better intro post are appreciated.

No idea, no, maybe, no idea, the point is moot.

After a single search, I can amend that first answer to “family roots.” Like ever other bit of trashiness in his life, that’s filtered through being rich.

Do other trashy residents of the finger lakes region identify with them? It seems the Iroquois may have, but I’m unsure how they conceptualized it. I’ve heard of Americans being proud of cities, counties, states, but not this broad yet particular geographical grouping. Do finger lakes people feel a rooted kinship like, maybe, those of Appalachia?

Finger Lakes is a pretty cohesive region, and has a decently well developed local identity. Firmly upstate NY, classier than the outlying areas, less depressed than Syracuse, not as isolated/Canadian as Buffalo.
