The Wednesday Wellness threads are meant to encourage users to ask for and provide advice and motivation to improve their lives. It isn't intended as a 'containment thread' and any content which could go here could instead be posted in its own thread. You could post:
-
Requests for advice and / or encouragement. On basically any topic and for any scale of problem.
-
Updates to let us know how you are doing. This provides valuable feedback on past advice / encouragement and will hopefully make people feel a little more motivated to follow through. If you want to be reminded to post your update, see the post titled 'update reminders', below.
-
Advice. This can be in response to a request for advice or just something that you think could be generally useful for many people here.
-
Encouragement. Probably best directed at specific users, but if you feel like just encouraging people in general I don't think anyone is going to object. I don't think I really need to say this, but just to be clear; encouragement should have a generally positive tone and not shame people (if people feel that shame might be an effective tool for motivating people, please discuss this so we can form a group consensus on how to use it rather than just trying it).

I've apparently reached the point in my life in which I'm concerned about hair loss/lack of hair growth. Laugh it up. Any recommendations for supplements I should be taking?
Oral or topical minoxidil has low side effect profile. Finasteride works but might mess with hormones/ has low probability of high impact side effects. Electric micro needing is weird and gross, but works esp. in conjunction minoxidil.
Biotin and msm are low probability, but might thicken hair/ make your hair look better.
Get in shape to look more like prime Bruce Willis or other balding sex symbols.

Not my area of expertise, but aren't hair plugs pretty good nowadays? Lebron and Biden both had them and they looked good. (The only reason I know they had them was because their baldness reversed).
When I was in Istanbul, I saw a lot of white guys walking around with shaved heads and women with bandages on their noses. Apparently, they have great and affordable cosmetic clinics there.

Supplements? Not aware of any that work.
I'd recommend topical minoxidil. Works great if you have the patience and discipline to stick to a several month long regime.
Impatient? Or high tolerance for erectile dysfunction? Toss in finasteride. I'd just go off the former for now, especially if you're starting on the early side of things.

As a bald man: Ha! Ahahahahahaha!
As the below poster said, those supplements will work. But also, consider just letting yourself go bald so you don't have to take that stuff forever. Just know that once you get to a certain point in the Norwood stages, a hair transplant won't save you. So really, you'd want to take a hair supplement mrvanillasky mentioned, get a hair transplant if necessary, and then keep taking hair supplements.
Or go bald. Then you can get a cool wig or something. If you're already married, ask your wife if she'll let you go bald instead of chaining you to the wall and applying minoxidil to your immobile scalp twice a day.
Seconded. Unless you have a really odd skull shape, shave it. It’s easy to maintain and makes applying to a biker gang much easier.
If you have a funny skull shape, you can have a doctor shave your skull.

Finasteride and minoxidil. See a dermatologist and don't read about the side effects. I started two years ago. Just know that once you start, you can't stop but start anyway, it's worth it. You hop on these meds even if you get a transplant so start now instead and avoid the need ea transplant.
