The real question imo is what's the steelman for staying in the deal when "the deal" is that we (the west) effectively subsidize Iran's support for Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, Et Al in exchange for a pinky-promise from Iran not to develop a nuclear weapon before 2030.

My impression is that being Pro-Palestine and Pro-Ukraine is the standard woke PMC intellectual (or as you put, it "current thing at ivy league") take while supporting Isreal while being somewhere between ambivalent towards and supportive of Ukraine is the default/normie position.
Meanwhile supporting Russia while hating on Isreal seems to be the majority opinion here because this space defines itself in large part through its opposition to/hatred of anything "woke" or "normie". We are very smart dont you know.
Supporters of both Russia and Isreal are what we call "principled libertarians" but there are maybe a dozen of them in the whole world and they are surrounded by witches.

Same here. I also find it instructive to note how certain individuals will argue that Ukraine should simply acquiesce to the obviously superior military, cultural, and economic might of Russia only to suddenly rediscover the concept of "nuance" when the same arguments are applied to Arabs in the Levant.
Its almost as if they're treating arguments as soldiers/ammunition instead of sincerely trying to test an idea.

I find it deeply frustrating to see orherwise intelligent people (who by all rights ought to know better) anthropomorphizing algorithms in this way.
In order to "be hobbled" by retrograde amnesia it have to be capable of forming memories in the first place.
An LLM is literally just a set of static instructions being run against your prompt. Those instructions don't change from prompt to prompt or instance to instance.
Barring a the development and deployment of true Ian Banks-esque AGI I think that it's an absolutely terrible idea that will do more harm than help.
Unfortunately the very qualities that make existing generative AIs a terrible therapist are also likely to make them a popular choice as one, as IME most lower-functioning individuals don't want "help" as much as they want validation.
So in the interests of "success" (from the pov of people selling AI therapy) that will be the focus of the training data, as without model permenance and/or a functional theory of mind, things like accountability and the identifying of underlying issues will be largely off the table.

Or more pointedly what specific facet of your current worldview/model is it that this particular fact seems to invalidate or contradict?

Worse than that, it lifted previously existing sanctions/restrictions and thus could arguably be read as giving them permission to obtain a nuclear arsenal so long as they don't actually do so until 2031.
