Small-Scale Question Sunday for February 23, 2025

Do you have a dumb question that you're kind of embarrassed to ask in the main thread? Is there something you're just not sure about?

This is your opportunity to ask questions. No question too simple or too silly.

Culture war topics are accepted, and proposals for a better intro post are appreciated.

Whenever South Korean society is discussed on Reddit, someone at some point (presumably some Western single woman) is bound to bring up the argument that the average marriage there is turned into a horror show for the wife by her demonic mother-in-law. It’s just Hell on earth, the average Korean married man is a spineless junk of garbage and a chump in his relationship with his mother, who’s an insufferable demon spawn towards her daughter-in-law etc.

Fair enough. But that leaves one to wonder: what about the Korean single man whose mother is dead or simply uninvolved in his life due to whatever other reason? If we accept this premise, surely such men are seen as much more preferable husbands on balance. Right? Did anyone ever due a survey of the social condition of such men? Is there data on this at all?
