Sweet - thanks!
Book 1 is on my list now after I finish Gates of Fire.
Just read the wiki
Tell me so much more?
Is it good / fun ?
Is this not the position of most of the left? Tax corporations more?
It’s fun to see opinions in real time.
Be boring if we all held our breaths until everything is over.
I lost 35lbs in 2.5 months with cardio
It just depends how big you are
Diet came later
(I rode my bicycle two hours a day to / fro work in the South Florida sun in August @305lbs lol)
What’s being exposed is our useless government. This may be worth it if it wakes up everyone to what their jobs are supposed to - I have my doubts.
Peace is still there … and unlike the other poster, I agree it’s been peaceful and prosperous for the western world and some adjacencies.
Like all good things, hubris was too high and it’s time to correct course - which this isn’t, nor will we do it after it’s over. Wow will continue.
First 42 pages of Gates of Fire - fictionalized account of the Spartans holding the gate at Thermopylae - was banging. Ripped right through them last night … not really sure why I thought there would be weird prose.
Nothing ground breaking but I could read stories about soldiers being soldiers forever.
Basically an injured Spartan tells the tale of the Spartans to Xerxes after the battle.
Big fan so far.
I got this with my new Samsung tv
It’s great - makes a significant difference.
Would highly recommend
I know this is whataboutism - and I’m not making this argument, just kind of stating how I feel - but, and this does suck, we killed a million Iraqi’s and Afghans and fucked our good will for decades … why do I care about this dude?
It’s an oopsie - it’s not a US citizen - it sucks but, man it just gets a big who gives a fuck from me.
Get him back eventually and give him a million bucks - I’m not saying it’s a non story but I bet minus the destination, we’ve made a few thousand similar mistakes over the last twenty years.
Or maybe it’s the opposite of TDS for me - maybe I just downplay every story because every story for 10 years has been amplified to 10.
Hard to tell.
Finishing up Killing Commendatore by Murakami and starting probably either Gates of Fire or Ship of Magic this week.
Gates of Fire seems like something I’ll get 30 pages into and never pick up again but it seems to have great reviews - just worried about the prose.
I was thinking we would just have a nice rapport and we’d talk about work and the American Dream and he’d think about all the murderous hijinks he had committed in the past and he’d do this to make himself feel better.
Like the Catholic Church used to do … pay for absolution ?
How do I get someone to loan me say 500k for a house and I can just pay him 40k up front and make monthly payments to him rather than the bank?
There’s really no incentive for this on his end, just like a good will gesture to me and my family.
I feel if I can meet a billionaire I can talk him into this.
(Is this too dumb of a question for Sunday dumb question thread?)
Your review has made me want to watch this now … no really.
Please review more film.
There’s clearly something off about me that prohibits me from finding a new career in some way … and possibly with the way I apply of course.
I’m just at a loss and stuck in retail for now.
It’s not literal Hell - I can probably be a store manager if a Dillards in 5 years and that’s six figures … but I just feel the need for more.
My gf and I are fans of 11:11 meaning yay look at that it’s a happy time
She believes it I guess
It’s really just fun and cute
I graduated with a Masters in 2020.
I’m now 41 and still work retail.
I have 22 years of retail management experience.
The amount of no’s I’ve received is in the thousands.
I don’t even believe entry level positions exist - I’ve never seen one. No idea why I got a Masters.
My idea was that ‘ hey my experience and this degree will mean I’ll be making 6 figures in a few years. LOL
My first response to Russia escalating into a full fledged invasion in 2022 is that the US shouldn’t nuked Moscow - an option that is now too late.
It would have saved some X amount of important lives (Ukrainians) and shown the other powers like China that the US stands up for its own - which it considers most of the free world.
I don’t actually believe Russia has an overly functional nuclear arsenal, and I don’t think China responds to Russias defense outside of Strong Words of Something.
Now? Yea it’s probably an agreement where no one is happy - not that I care about the happiness factor of Russia.
I’ve worked retail for 22 years at the store level and just did a third hike (not a full hike - just a jaunt!) on an Appalachian trail. I’m literally sleeping in a cabin with a jacuzzi and it’s snowing outside ( I live in SFL ) !!!
You can definitely go hiking.
It’s very affordable and you have the time.
A big thing on comment sections I’m seeing is something like ‘ just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it wasteful spending / fraud ‘
But transgender opera in a foreign country is one of hundreds of such things I think 90% of the country would say that their tax dollars shouldn’t fund.
I’m pretty happy calling it fraud as well.
Well, thousands of brains for sure.
I don’t want my AI to have a predisposition for dom / sub relationships or a foot fetish.
I think just like AI and global warming, the downsides are overstated and the upsides under understood and appreciated.
I can not wait until I am part cyborg. I want a metal liver, kidneys, testicles, nose, eyes, left shoulder … I don’t care.
When the human body breaks down - I want to find it with the cold embrace of metal. I want to accentuate my being into perfection. Which doesn’t exist, but maybe just the feeling of.
The stated downsides are all there. Human hacking will be a thing.
But, we’ll just deal. We deal with things now and we’ll deal with things then. That’s the human spirit.
Hell yea - I’ve finally been highlighted !!!
Do not personally attack them
Come at me
On a more serious note, I could read ‘ AI slop ‘ for days and find it interesting and unlike other people’s fantasy football teams, I find others AI interactions fascinating as well.
I understand that this place does not, which I also find fascinating, and honestly it makes me understand plot points of future anti AI readings & cinema better.
I think it’s best the US stops the way it oddly thinks about sex and the naked body. Granted, I was born abroad but I’ve lived here for decades and probably have the same sensibilities as everyone else.
Europes nakedness probably won’t work here due to many reasons, but I think showing an uncensored news story where the main point is ‘ woman gets nude as stunt at celebrity outing ‘ should be fine.
Kanye I don’t believe was ever seen as someone who was standing up for conservatives or someone with a conservative bent, it always seemed like finger pointing at a crazy guy who was fucked by the liberal establishment and might be clawing his way out in a rightward direction. Plus his gospel album was a banger.
I just didn’t know the (gentle!) hostility this place has for ‘ AI Slop ‘ … I browse daily since years before we left Reddit and I just never noticed tbh.
I actually asked Chat to go long. Usually do.

Could you talk more about your actual faith? - as opposed to the woes of the world that have led you back to it?
The church is freaking cool. That’s just a given. Crusades, dope gear, eternal heaven, long ass running institutions, an enemy (or thousands) … I’m not being facetious, all cool things.
But how do you believe? Why do you choose to believe this rather than any Indian thing, and Japanese thing, any anything? Is it just that this is the Western version of something you want?
Your answer doesn’t just have to be about you per se - just maybe your ideas surrounding the entire thing.
Aside from Sam Harris and a few others, I always fairly hated atheists. I probably am one, maybe. Maybe agnostic. Like my music genres, I don’t care - it’s all metal.
However - no religion is correct. And we [[[all]]] (((know))) that. It’s just a tale built upon other tales seemingly and there’s a thousand of them.
I guess I want to know what a man of intelligence has to say about it.
I thought about going to church a few times in the past decade but the dreaded ‘ this isn’t true ‘ always reared its head.
