I do think we should attack China over COVID due to them on accident releasing COVID that we helped engineer.
We did this because we are stupid.

Not what you asked but white peopke currently made the best societies - you can dispute this but I’ve never even been close to having my mind even slightly altered. Not because I’m an asshole white supremacist, but because I can look around and see every great society is a white one. Or Japanese … or South Korean.
These are the most prosperous and safest places on earth. Sure, some of South America is fine … but there’s no great societies.
It’s very clear to me white people are a very small global minority but make literally everything great / prosperous / safe … you take that away and we’re back to the Stone Age.
And I don’t think we can assimilate the world the way we have been trying.

Tender is the Flesh - one of the rare books that gives me ‘ the ick ‘ … 40% of the way through and not sure how I feel about it yet aside from thinking if I wrote a book I would write it as simply as this, which I appreciate.
Also reading Lolita (haven’t started) and that book about the tradwife blogger that randomly goes back in time to the 1800’s - about 10% in on that one.
Reading the latter two with my fiance so that’s going to be really fun (mean this seriously not ironically). Been trying to get her back into reading and I love reading all kinds of stuff (schlock)

I just read a Chuck Klosterman novel with some of his articles and one of them was about KISS and how they’re his favorite band - which I remember him talking about before but forgot and it blew my mind.
So I listened to some off the non hit albums and yea, pretty good !

After having read the piece: I really don’t understand how he’s going after men here?
The woman doesn’t belong on society, she should be killed, it doesn’t matter if she was psychotic at the time (she was), it just doesn’t fucking matter … the rest of us deserve peace from people who murder.
I don’t need empathy for a child murderer - I guess I have some, like it sucks this happened to her? I just don’t want her in my society … same way I view any violent criminal or weird foreign religion (Islam, not Judaism).

Until the day I die, I will read comments like yours and remember not only those two actions but the constant riots over the last several years over police shootings and well whatever, we don’t have to detail the post Covid collapse of civil society.
Yea - the right did Jan 6th … whoopty doo.
I understand society hasn’t collapsed, but if it does, it’ll come from whatever in the hell is happening to the left, here in the US, and abroad, with our European allies.
Maybe Japan and SKorea will be courageous enough to save us this time.

New fact … I always had a thought that anything that happened yesterday is a myth. The longer ago it was from right this second, the less true anything about it becomes.
Add in importance of any kind and the more important it was the less factual information about it can be trusted.
What I learned about the Till case in school and what I’ve grown to know about it is maybe not earth shattering but it’s another data point on a long list of ‘ history isn’t real ‘ data points.

I’m going back n forth about watching this with the fiancé. It seems like it may be a really interesting watch.
I’ve read the spoilers before and I honestly don’t get it - if my fiancé told me what this woman in the film told her fiancé I would laugh and shrug.
Reading your synapsis made me think that maybe it’s a class issue. The characters in the movie are well off intellectuals (more or less) and so are the actors and writers and director (more or less). I’m a dude that got his masters but I’ve been at store level retail my entire career. I just would have zero care that someone told me they thought about and planned to do a school shooting but didn’t. It’s not like they were stopped - they just didn’t do it.
To me it would be more interesting if that was the plot: she went through with it but got stopped immediately, no one as hurt, and got counseling or a few years in prison.
But the point is ((they)) would think that’s so abhorrent what’s the point of the film - meanwhile I think the actual plot point is so banal who gives a shit … Charlie seems like the weirdo. He actually fucking hurt someone!

For some reason I love 2049 more and I almost love The Thing prequel as much as the original - I just enjoy it.
My next OG Blade Runner watch I’ll have to watch one of the ((5)) cuts I haven’t watched. Maybe without the narration? Or maybe the commentary.
I’ll have to keep the ending of The Thing in mind - I’m up for a watch soon with the kids.

Tragic end.
I feel bad for the dude - honestly a hearty laugh is all I want when people violate social norms like this and show us how frankly evil our institutions can be.
Sure I can blame the dude for every lie told but it only permeates my life several levels deep … the association of someone like Arday and my life only really touches when the walks start crumbling down.
What gets me mad is the institutions.
It’s their fault! Every step of the way someone, anyone, could have stepped in and stopped folly.
But things snowball and here we are.
I don’t even know what I’m supposed to learn from this, and I don’t know how I can help make the world a better place than I left it. People used to change the world I feel like, and I’m only changing the people around me … which is something!
I’m 100% reading the biography about this.
The American public - like all publics - now cares about everything equally due to knowing and hearing about everything.
If this were post wwii but pre Vietnam we would be at war.
