I was single and after getting my BS and Masters I was ready to eat my slice of the American pie. Instead I still work retail and am now in debt. I said fuck this system about a year after I graduated and now owe student loans and credit debt. I defaulted on the cards. And I’m going to be paying my student loans probably for literally ever.
Now I just got engaged (grammas ring!) and all of a sudden care again. She makes as much as me. We’ll both eventually make more (my American dream isn’t dead - just angrily smoldering).
We still went on vacation this year. A once in a lifetime for both of us (ahem? once we make more maybe this trip will seem quaint) trip on the Washington north near Olympic National Park and on the Oregan coast, right on the beach, where I proposed.
I could’ve taken that 8k and done something else with it. We could’ve saved more (currently we’re saving about 10k a year … we have about 115k in in total savings between my 401k and her divorce) or put it towards a debt.
But we’re paying that debt - and what if she dies tomorrow? Or me? Or one of her kids (which will ruin her for years)?
Go on vacation man.
Go to the Oregan coast and walk out at midnight and feel it.

The problem with the internet is it went from being handled by libertarians to, yes, pearl clutching progressives that have more in common with 90’s Christian conservatives rather than any sane person today.

I explained my own take on Kirk here, how I was horrified that anyone is dying in political violence, but that Kirk was hardly some “martyr for truth”. He was just a mundane political operative -- a commentator/e-celeb that wasn’t particularly noteworthy prior to his death. The idea he was “promoting dialogue” was completely hollow when what he was really doing was farming infantile leftists for dunk opportunities that he could then post on TikTok and elsewhere for money and clout. I certainly don’t think that’s evil, but it’s also not some great public service. Is my opinion sufficiently insensitive that people on the Right think I should be fired? Based on the types of people that are being targeted in the screenshots above, I’d say it’s plausible to think so.
He was the main voice of the online and young right.
He was more noteworthy than every political pundit from: late night shows, main stream media (cnn msnbc Fox News), etc possibly put together.
Add up his followers / listeners or TPUSA numbers and see how noteworthy he actually was.
His death will not be a watershed moment because we are going through a transition from the 50’s-9/11 to whatever the fuck is going on in our world right now. But it has the feel of it if you have an understanding of his impact.
I’ve never listened to the guy, not once! But I can look and see what his impact is / was and what he actually did.
I do not think your lookey look into his life post death is accurate whatsoever.
What comes to mind for me (not about you … I’m just pontificating now) about Kirk is: they will call you a Nazi, then they will kill the Nazi, then they will cheer the Nazis death, then they will be outraged that people are aghast at their own behavior of cheerful murder of completely mundane people.

Milo was a piece of shit asshole - Kirk was a kid who started a company that became defining for a generation.
Kirk was a completely nice, normal conservative.
He represents the best of ‘ that side ‘ imo. That side being people on the right.

Since many people wrote about all my other thoughts:
J6 showed that he was not committed to a peaceful transfer of power.
J6 showed for the X time that Democrats cry foul when someone else does what they do.
J6 was actually mostly peaceful in a way the BLM riots never were.
Trump mostly told everyone to relax.
This is kind of the point of the post you’re replying to - the truth changes on political perceptions.

I don’t know if this counts but I was really drunk with my buddy on the beach during a hurricane and we went swimming. The waves were literally on the walk way of the beach - he jumped in and immediately was flipped and went head first down disappeared. I vaguely sort of waddled in where I thought he may have been, grabbed him, and pulled him out.
He was sort of stunned and non verbal.
The issue is: I know something like this happened. But I don’t remember anything else before or after. I don’t know how heroic I was, and if my mind is remembering more and more heroic feats in that moment. It was some 20 years ago and we were drunk and it was way late at night.
But I do know that he got in the ocean and I had to get him. And if my mind is adding a bit of extra flair, so be it, I’m 6ft5 and it’s believable even to myself.
Also I was really stupid around that time so it all checks out.
Last year a lady kept fainting at a WWII reenactment and I was like the only person to grab her and put her on the ground gently and give her water. She was very fat and old and so was her husband. It was really good seeing my two teenage boys seeing me do that. Like, hey, you gotta do good things rather than staying neutral.

Yes if he was doing actual boxing boxing.
They do cardio, technique, footwork, hand work, and very, very light sparring.
Even then, I would recommend a kid take a few to the head in a boxing gym rather than not.
It forms important understandings as a kid imo.

Awesome read.
I didn’t own a car for ten years in South Florida and bicycled 2 hours a day usually.
I always dreamed of doing something like what you wrote. But also reading what you wrote I realize that I don’t think it’s up my alley. It sounds amazing - but I just want a relaxed trip on a road with a pub at the end of a few hours.
What was your most relaxed bicycling trip been ?
