As much as I dislike the foreign policy establishment, they provide predictability. Major wars break out when one side doesn't correctly predict what the other side will do; if everyone can predict what will happen and the costs to each party, it greatly increases the likelihood of managed transitions that don't go kinetic.




I don't see how this follows at all.  If one side is able to predict with relative precision the costs of a conflict will be, they will be more likely to do it whenever the benefits exceed those costs. Is your position that norms should override Constitutional rights? Because that seems somewhat problematic for other rights you probably support. Its certainly been the norm in blue states to make owning guns difficult. Does that trump 2A rights?




The problem is the inconsistency.  As you point out, Blue Tribe norms almost always trump constitutional rights.  New York's laws, as a practical matter, actually do override the Second Amendment.  The reverse almost never happens.




If New York is forced to allow open carry will you curse this overriding of norms?

I feel bad for JD Vance. I identify a little with him, and he's just getting hammered on bullshit day in and day out, over and over. I don't think he's doing great, but he can't get out of his own way.




I mean, it's almost impossible to "get out of your own way" when malicious hyper-scrutiny is applied to every facial twitch, and it's definitely impossible when people simply make things up and meme them into existence with the support of 24/7 news media. NASA is definitely likely to be his biggest ally for sure, but who listens our cares about what NASA has to say? They are politically irrelevant except as a pork delivery system, which SpaceX a actually threatens. DOD might actually be the most influential voice urging his indispensibility, though their influence over State is likely weak and not enough to overcome the political hatred of Musk combined with the lobbying of the traditional defense contractors. Literally just aggressively prosecuting and sentencing violations of the firearm restriction laws we already have on the books would go a long way to solving the problem.  If a felon with a firearm goes away for 10 years, they're not going to be robbing people on the street for a while. It depends on what tools you have or are willing to get.


Got a microwave? Literally stab a potato, put it in the microwave, and press the POTATO button.  Baked potato comes out.  Add whatever fixings are in your fridge.


If you like vegetables, get an air fryer.  Toss your raw veggies in olive oil and seasoning, and then roast them in the air fryer.


Or, get a hand-powered food processor.  Drop in some chunked tomatoes, onion, cilantro, peppers, garlic, salt, and lime juice, and process.  Delicious salsa comes out.


Or, get a small rice cooker.  Add rice and water, dump in other veg or meat as you feel like, and start.  When it is done a little while later, you have a meal.


Or, get a countertop sandwich grill (i.e., George Foreman style).  Grab a boneless chicken breast or pork chop, season, and put it on the grill for 5 or 6 minutes. Yes, I think the key distinguishing factor between Nazism specifically vs. nationalism or fascism generally is the belief in social Darwinism and eugenics at the volk-scale.  They genuinely believed that a glorious future awaits, when the best and brightest and strongest dominate the world and mold it for the betterment of all.
