Right, my point was more that social security has many levers that can be used to increase its long term stability. Levers that would seemingly be easier to handle than an economic collapse.
100% agree with this. Especially love that “social security spending” was thrown in there. Somehow an economic collapse is being proposed as a solution rather than fixing SS by raising the tax and/or raising retirement age.
You’d rather take mandatory trainings on the party? Wear a loyalty pin?
For me zero COVID alone would be a nightmare. Hong Kong just dropped their mask mandate last week!
Exactly, I’d rather continue to take mandatory DEI trainings than be under the CCP.
What was the point of this fever dream rant? Did some Chinese guy steal your girl?
Hasn’t he transitioned fully to a hot take artist these days? Wouldn’t be surprised if he was hoping his comic would get pulled so he can proclaim himself a martyr.
No politics at work is a tried and true Carrer strategy. Limited upside in political arguing and high downside.
I don’t even know why i’m bothering to ask this, but have you ever been to China? I’ve only been to major cities but it’s really not that different from the US. All of the major American brands are there, they love Marvel movies and have a work ethic that goes and goes. The CCP might be “communist” but the people feel even more capitalist than Americans. Think the cultures fit well together and we could each learn a lot from each other.
I don’t buy this argument at all. Law firms represent all kinds of people/companies. If murderers, rapists and big tobacco can find legal representation i’m sure employees with documented discrimination will be able to.
Not race but gender related a big payout happened in North Carolina when a man won a discrimination lawsuit on the basis of gender.
Wouldn’t surprise me at all to these types of cases come up for both gender and race.
I think the support for TERFs from the right is mostly an own the libs thing. Rowling is perfect for this because as OP states Harry Potter is the closest thing to a Bible progressive white women have. The fact that the writer isn’t 100% down with the progressive agenda is great snark for the right.
Is the WEF powerless? The org itself may lack formal powers but it’s attended by the top business executives in the world. This isn’t some random Vegas lawyer conference.
I’d argue that being able to attract top talent and set the conference agenda is certainly a type of power.
Don’t love the statue. It feels like they wanted a unique MLK statue and just missed the mark. MLK’s memorial in the national mall is a a much more traditional monument and looks great, especially lit up at night.
Not sure one statue ties into a wider point on “The West”. Seems like most of our statues are just a guy on a horse or standing in a military uniform. Doesn’t seem like a sign of downfall to try out new styles even if this one turned out poorly.

Pretty terrifying list.
I do wonder how much the risk associated with mRNA is similar to the risks for any drug. For example ibuprofen has a list of possible side effects that when listed out look shockingly dangerous.
Haven’t don’t any research into it and honestly have no desire to, but that’s how I’ve been generally thinking about vaccine risk. Which is to say I don’t think about it at all. Cutting out booze and making sure I actually stretch after working out likely to have much larger heath impacts for me than worrying about basis points on vaccine risk.
Gotcha that makes more sense. I agree the FDA should be more open about experimental treatments being an option.
Moderna had a sample size of 30K for their phase 3 testing. Not sure where you got the few hundred number….
Why would I view Brett as the enemy? He’s just another talking head. I think he’s acting to build and engage with an audience. This is the same incentive structure as the rest of the media.
There was clearly an unmet market for a contrarian take on the vaccine and Brett jumped whole heart into it.
Just because someone has a different take than Maddow and Hannity doesn’t mean they don’t have the same incentives.
I may be overly cynical but I think Weinstein saw a big opening to get a following by going against the vax (he’d already had similar success going against academia) and he ran with it to great success.
He could sound very reasonable by preaching a pro vaccine message as well but then he’d just be another fish in the mainstream media sea.
I think part of it is just a large group of people are contrarian against whatever the mainstream is pushing. If Pfizer and the CDC were pushing ivermectin hard and MRNA vaccines were still under review the Brett Weinstein’s of the world would be clamoring for MRNA and crying conspiracy.
An interesting thought experiment is if the vaccine came out 5 months sooner Trump would have taken credit and pushed it all day every day to try and win the election. Could easily see a scenario where the anti vax and pro vax camps flip among the hardcore partisans.
I don’t see Matt Gaetz voting trump for speaker as a principled stance to take.
I suppose in the end it doesn’t really matter, but just another disappointment from politics.
The GOP is my in group! It shows how far gone parts of the GOP base has gone (the part that is responsible for losing the senate majority) that my criticism is making me out to be a liberal. Matt Gaetz voting Trump for speaker is just another example of him and his followers not being serious people.
It’s a consistency thing. I’d like the GOP to consistently show that they are serious about governing. It’s been difficult for me to take the republicans serious since Trump and the midterms.
Except the game isn’t rigged. To win you need to win elections and then govern once you actually win. The Dems managed to pass quite a bit of legislation while in power recently and it’s debatable if republicans would be able to do the same if given power again.
George Bailey will be waiting for you in the Bay Area asking if you can hold out a bit
