When i wrote this piece for MWI a lot of folks assumed i was advocating tearing down confederate monuments. I really dont have a strong opinion about that particular issue. I get both sides might have strong feelings.
However, given the actual threat to eastern europe of russian occupation and coercion, i do think tearing down that particular soviet monument is not just within Latvias sovereign right, but also prudent national security policy. Its not a culture war issue, this is about actual war.
