Actually in this show! Later in the series the same character tries to take on like 3-4 guys at once and gets beaten pretty badly.

Issa Lopez is a telenovella writer. She just (obviously) doesn’t have the skills to take on a show like this.

Hiding behind “that’s sexist!” makes the problem of sexism worse, since it means we are to believe that this is what a top tier female writer is capable of producing.

I think something that needs to happen for stories like this to be taken seriously is that they need to be more realistic about the shortcomings of the characters. For instance: one of the opening scenes is a female cop absolutely [wo]man-handling a guy twice her size. This scene plays a lot better if she tries to [wo]man-handle this guy, and gets the shit beaten out of her for it. It establishes this character as arrogant (which she is) and humanizes her. We should see multiple instances of these two lady-cops being unable physically interact with the criminals they are supposed to be policing. Maybe at some point they can play this to their advantage somehow.

There is also a weird culture war happening right now where suicide is being presented as hip and cool. This is a serious problem. I have a teenage niece who has had multiple friends kill themselves. This is obviously happening in Canada with the bizarre commercials for their suicide program, and then the end of this show one of the main characters killing herself (seemingly out of nowhere) as a means of "closure" or something? Ridiculous and actually bad for society.

My sister is going through teaching school right now, and the required ideology-enforcement classes are beyond anything I would have ever expected. She’ll send me examples of test questions that are almost verbatim:

True/False: reverse racism can exist.

And you have to answer false, and explain that white people are oppressive colonizers.

There’s also a lot of making her write short essays on how oppressed she is as a woman, how bad white people are, etc. I’m pretty cynical, but I had no idea it was this bad.

For reference this is in what I would consider one of the most conservative states in the country. I think conservatives right now just have no idea how bad it actually is.

I think people are just generally less empathetic and more angry than they were.

Covid was a fucked up society altering thing. At the same time large cohorts of the population were convinced that other large cohorts of the population were out there to kill them, and as a result we had a summer of violent, deadly riots all over the country.

I think people are basically just more cynical now, so they drive more aggressively, and don’t care that they’re putting people in danger. I see it in my city all the time. One specific demographic of people I have noticed have decided handicap parking stalls are free game. They also drag race everywhere, run red lights, pass like psychopaths, don’t look when they turn out of parking lots, etc.

I get it, honestly. Covid and the 2020 riots, and then the election fuckery, were massive blackpills for everyone. Couple that with the stress of the economy right now, the prospect of major wars breaking out all over the place, the cost of housing, the cost of groceries, the fact that nobody fucking each other anymore, and the totally disregard of immigration laws and it’s no wonder people don’t care.
