I guess I just don’t care. If they make me show up to court because I didn’t have the little plastic thing, and instead just had them look it up, that’s funny to me.

Bikes are hard to lock, and easy to steal, and police generally aren’t going to do a single thing about your $1500 bicycle being gone.
Ubiquitous e-bike/scooter rentals are preferable because almost all of the downsides are hidden from me.

Yes it’s in the glovebox in my car. Home Depot is the only place I go that doesn’t take Apple Pay, so I keep it in there in case I go to Home Depot.
I guess if it was explicitly a driving license I would keep that in there as well, but it seems there are lots of other, non driving related things I need it for (flying, for instance) so it lives in the house.

I haven’t brought my drivers license with me for any reason other than flying in…years.
My car unlocks with my phone, which also has apply pay. I don’t carry a wallet with me, and I don’t carry house keys with me either. My house uses electronic locks, and I’m very competent with a lock pick (and can improvise one very quickly) in the event that that fails.
Usually when we fly finding IDs is a task on our to do list.

Okay I’ll respond here and say: my drivers license or any of my “documents” would be among the last things I would think to grab. I’d want:

Kids/wife/debit card

Hardware authenticators (irreplaceable)

Laptop
-
Gun
-
“Survival” stuff like a fishing rod and a water filter and some lighters.
I realize this makes me very stupid, and this event has made me reevaluate my thoughts. For instance if I lost ALL of my “documents”, could I reconstruct them? My intuition says: yes, easily. Just “steal” my own identity. I have my DL# and SSN memorized. I know my full name, DOB, all of my addresses, employment history, etc.
What would it actually take, I wonder?

Trump has been pretty vocal about ending the war. I’d go as far as saying it’s one of his main talking points.
Frankly I’m surprised there hasn’t been more of this.

Abortion is in my mind due to the debate last night which has led me to this article:
The state recorded eight deaths among infants who survived abortion attempts during Tim Walz’s tenure as governor.
The gist is: in Minnesota, if a baby was born you were required to care for it to keep it alive. Sometimes an abortion would result in a living baby being born, and doctors were required to give that baby supportive care (they were likely premature, so wouldn’t necessarily survive, although premature babies born wrong 23 weeks survive frequently, that said none of the cited instances of this led to a baby surviving).
In 2019 this was changed to allow doctors to let a baby sit there until it just dies on its own.
Here’s some thoughts about this:

At the point where this is even a question, you’re clearly talking about a living human being.

Simply ignoring a baby until they die is the way that infanticide (usually killing baby girls) is done all over the world

This is another instance of “conservative politician says something that gets immediately ‘fact checked’, but it turns out is at least directionally and likely just literally true.

We should be caring for living human babies whether the mother wants to kill them or not. “Oops I meant to kill it before I could see it out here in the world” is not a valid excuse.

If anything the fact that there were so many cases of this in a single state in such a small period of time moves my needle even further towards being aggressively anti abortion, up to jailing the doctors doing this and charging them with murder.
