If you want to it really depends on your goals.

I will say that tracking calories is so much easier than it ever used to be. I use cronometer, most food you can just scan a barcode and you're done. Otherwise just rough estimates of a food and what it weights.

A few weeks of that and I upped my protein intake. A few weeks after that I decided to play around with the macos. After that I decided to cut some unhealthy food.

Use AI to help with diet, meals, protein intake ideas.

Tldr: tracking is mellow. Don't make it hard and tie it to a hardcore diet. Just track your food as your eating now, review if you're getting enough protein (in the discover tab) and then adjust accordingly a little bit every couple weeks if you wish. Is chill.

This is a very light conviction, as I’m not technically minded enough to understand the deeper mechanics of AI.

That said, it feels like we’re at the peak of inflated expectations on the Gartner hype cycle. This is entirely based on vibes, bro — I have no solid argument beyond having worked in finance and becoming interested in bubbles, and thinking “I’ve seen this before.” It’s a weak case.

I've already seen predictions falling substantially short of the mark.

I do think AI will be disruptive and world-changing. But I don’t find the “superhuman” predictions particularly convincing — or many of the other wilder forecasts. The robotics applications, though, seem possible and genuinely exciting.

If anyone has a solid counter to this lazy argument, I’d be keen to hear it.

It's sane insofar that it's human nature. Trite example but America was guilty of such a reaction after 9/11.

Easy to say with hindsight. What do you think looks good in the next 10 years?

Markets are pretty efficient. We as individuals are significantly less efficient.

They aren't. But they're the best prediction tool we have.

It's not just people talking. Vanguard forecast 2.9% - 4.9%.

What are your go-to news sources?

I always feel a step behind when it comes to the current administration’s actions. It usually takes about a month for the real substance—beyond the initial outrage-driven headlines—to reach me, along with the actual reasoning behind any given policy.

It also seems like much of the discourse is happening on Twitter, which is frustrating. I have a deep disdain for social media and have no desire to be more online than I already am.

Have to give a shout out to The Motte and the people that run it. It's a great resource.

I'd appreciate any recommendations you might have!

Regional Japan 10 years ago was very difficult to get around without knowing the language. Now with Google Translate (for conversation) and AR translation of text you can go about your day pretty frictionless. Remarkable difference between the two travel experiences.

Esims are very convenient too.

Not a smartphone invention but AI was a fantastic help.

Thanks! Downloading now.

Similarly disappointed by Tears of the kingdom.

If I can give a recommendation in return - Outer Wilds is great to go into blind. It's the best mystery / puzzle solve game I've ever seen by a mile. Actually, it's the best game I've ever experienced by a long shot. I wish I could play it again for the first time. DLC is fantastic too.

There have been other amendments to the constitution. Why not make another to improve things?

I don't think the founders could foresee the future that well that they could predict events hundreds (or thousands) of years in the future and consider everything.

can anyone offer testimonials of having significantly altered their personality through conscious effort?

I have gone from an extremely negative person to a moderately positive one within 2 years. My friends have noticed and commented. I set out to try and 'fix' my depression, not change my personality per se. I relate to your experiences a lot. I wouldn't consider myself a socialite nowadays, but things are much better. I did not realize my social awkwardness was in part due to my depression / mild anxiety.

I have two pieces of advice to offer; meditation and to care less for what others think of you.

Meditation isn't a tool but it has the helpful side effect of robbing your thoughts of their power over you. When you have thoughts of tracking body language, emotional stress, eye contact, you can notice these things as thoughts appearing that do not hold any weight. You can let go of them and just be.

When the thoughts and *feelings *of anxiety have less power over you, you'll be paying attention to what is being said, not where your hands are etc. If you are unfamiliar with meditation it is really difficult to describe the difference in experience. I guess you'll have to trust a stranger on the internet here (hopefully).

I highly, highly recommend the Waking Up app. Treat it as seriously as religion, practice daily and make your way through the theory section.

Additionally here's a fun blog on caring less about what people think (and being less stuck in your own head). The analogy of the mammoth always stuck with me.

Best of luck.

Looks like we have similar taste / views on music.

They're a bit of an outlier on my usual listening habits. But I think King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is the greatest band alive today. Curious if you like them?

I like to use post it flags that stick out the edges. I then highlight the section. I have a system of color coding that I've developed that I really enjoy.

It's also quite interesting to see how the good books end up full of flags sticking out the side.
