I know Vanderbilt took that stance, and was probably helped out by a bunch of very unsympathetic protestors caught on security camera violating school rules (you can't force your way into a closed building, and you especially can't physically shove the security guard at the door), which let them crack down and send a message in a targeted, noncontroversial way--or at least, as noncontroversial as anything is these days.

And me. I enjoy pretty pictures, birds, and occasional completely unhinged fandom takes. Compared to Twitter, I find it quite peaceful, and there's far less obnoxious political posts to scroll back, either supporting or in opposition to my views.

I meant more that I often can't point to a specific politician endorsing a specific view, but that view is so promoted culturally that it just feels associated with them regardless.

The clever thing is, it's not a Harris ad. There's a nice little disclaimer at the end that it's not authorized by her campaign. So, of course, when anyone complains, it's not the Democratic Party or their politicians behind these ads, it's just totally unaffiliated randos!
There has to be a term for that (other than implausible deniability). I feel like I see it a lot with IdPol stuff: "Well, most Democratic politicians don't use LatinX, so you can't blame them for your workplace's employee group!"

Similarly, young men on voicechat on videogames have been talking about fucking each others' moms in various depraved ways for decades, while lots of women experience this as traumatising aggression. It's clearly a gendered phenomenon, potentially even a biological one - it wouldn't surprise me if we found that isolated tribes in Papua New Guinea where men bond with "your momma" jokes.
There's an (unfortunately incomplete) cuneiform tablet dating back to 1500 B.C. that includes, among other jokes, "[...] of your mother is by the one who has intercourse with her. Who is it?"
Sadly, the fragmented tablet does not include the punchline, although given the other jokes/riddles, it presumably would have lost something in the translation.

My best friend--been with me through thick and thin for most of both of our lives--straight up told me if I was a Trump supporter, that was the only thing that could ever end our friendship.
To me, there are far worse things than simply supporting Trump, and there's a not implausiblr chance it was simply a venting/signaling sentence, but it was still a bit chilling to hear (as someone who is most emphatically not a Trump supporter, but at risk of being assumed to be one in certain circles for simply not thinking it's as bad as the histrionics would suggest).

Multiple friends are having full-on breakdowns. It's distressing to see. Other friends are being insufferable and gloating (or, possibly worse, "not gloating but just saying"). At work, though, everyone is civil either way.

I adored bioware up until the launch of Mass Effect 2 (I disliked the party and character driven aspect compared to the knowledge quest of the first part), though that ME3 was too full of fanservice and had too shitty ending and haven't been seriously invested in them.
Presumably you also are familiar with Shamus Young's analysis/Let's Plays on this subject?

They're not that much more expensive where I am than the meat equivalents, and i find the taste for a lot of dishes is pretty good, and don't care about the healthiness of my food. So I could easily see new vegetarians (who still want their sausage rolls and cottage pies) going for it.

if you ask me, I wouldn't say that it's bad that AI learns from "stealing" from artists. Honestly, ask absolutely anyone who's learned anything creative: learning art is all about learning how to steal from people. I know it's not completely analogous, but I don't personally believe that it should be bad for AI to learn by stealing while it's okay for human artists to learn by stealing.
The concern isn't about learning by stealing, it's about earning by stealing: the thought is that AI will put (some) human artists out of business.
