Not at all. Gorbachev was a failed reformer. He had ideas how to improve USSR, was realist that the situation is not good, was willing to break with the ideologic doctrine for the state to survive, but he ran out of runway.
Kamala is probably the other type - if we assume that the west's dominance is doomed due to reasons, she will be the one that with steady hand will ignore any and all warning and ram the titanic in the iceberg.
She is shitty material for US president, but damn she is just fine for a member of the European Commission.
I am not sure she can even comprehend the challenges US will be faced with - the biggest allies are sliding into irrelevance - Japan hasn't grown in 3 decades, Europe in 15 years, the other big players in the world are smiling to the US and chasing their own interests, you have the incoming national debt shitstorm, wildcards with AI, changing nature of warfare, cultural split, cost disease, total lack of people that have lived experience in a multipolar world to run the US foreign policy, probably even lack of people with any idea what US interests are.
Kissinger said that USSR in the 80s was faced with many problems - not a single one of which was unsolvable, but all together overwhelmed the state. The US is in much better shape economically, the challenges faced are somewhat vaguer and there is no consensus among the elite that the US is in trouble. Polls show that the population is worried, but the elite is not. In the USSR I think it was the opposite - the elite were worried because they could travel west and compare, the population was not, it was waiting for the collapse (not that it brought much good, but many a phd-s could be written why things went so wrong everywhere in the former soviet bloc in the 90s and early 00s, we got the italian organized crime, korean birth rates, indian brain drain and japanese gdp growth all at once )

IIRC the warner brothers documentaries from the middle of last century - they are unstoppable and any clever contraption will backfire. (sorry the setup for the joke was just too good)
What we did when we had birds eating our grapes - we just shot a couple and left them in the sun to desiccate and tied them at random intervals in the fields. It worked. Not sure if applicable for hares.
Worst case - get a cookbook and eat the trapped ones.

A proper 20kg barbell not made of chinesium can easily go couple of hundreds of dollars. And is forever and there is almost no difference between new and used 10 years in a gym. So it keeps its value well. Same with plates, dumbbells and kettlebells.
Chinesium is other story, but probably one shouldn't use them if they care about safety.

Here is are some projects that I am pursuing (lazily):
DIY mini clinebell for big blocks of clear ice.
Right now I am making my clear ice with 1/1 GN 20 liter polypropylene container whose top and top 1/3rd of the sides are insulated with XPS and small aquarium pump to circulate the water. The yield is somewhat low - 15kg for 72 hours, so I am aiming bigger.
So far my design is to repurpose some cheapo second hand horizontal freezer, make sure the bottom is filled with brine that will be kept at around -6, and be able to hold couple of those containers. My goal is to be able to make around 6kg. The bonus of clear ice is that it makes the water almost distilled - when clear ice is melted it contents of impurities is around 7ppm. So it is a good starting point for any project which depends on quite clean water.

Today we think diseases are treatable, but that is because the usual meaning of the word covers diseases caused by pathogens and relatively similar set of causes which the Western science can treat.
There are reports that Ozempic allows people to unhook to other stuff that they are hooked to - not only food. Like gambling. Chances are that probably we are somewhere in the neighborhood for penicillin for compulsive behavior.
It is left to the reader to decide whether this is good or bad thing and in what kind of jolly anti-utopia we will put ourselves into.

Am I going insane? Long time ago I watched some video on youtube about recreating coca cola. Now I can't find the same video although I did rewatched some that were in my history (not talking about the 3 well known recipes, you tube is full with them). What was mentioned (and showed briefly on screen) was that there was a whole forum/community dedicated to reverse engineering merchandise 7x and notes which of the formulations were closest. And it was not open cola.
What is interesting is that I can't find that community - not even a hint that it existed, or that such thing doesn't exit. google is just blank staring at me and sends me official coca cola siter, news sites or reddit. So I may have invented it in my imagination. On the other hand this is such a perfect nerdy hobby that I am fairly sure it should exist. And I have problems with Google lately - more and more I feel that they shape the internet, not just index it - I can't find quotes that I know exist - and I have found them couple of years before. I can't find the full text of jokes which punchlines I know by heart. There is a lot of stuff that is was there in the wild years of the internet that should be somewhere. And yet it is not. We are either losing knowledge at a great pace or the search engines are blackening parts of the internet.

For real life math applications - probably less than a day. Learn to know exponential functions, positive and negative feedback, some statistics and probability theory - that's it. All of those take one or two hours to grok at basic level. And with them you will be able to build useful mental model of almost anything.

If you really, carefully parse it with your far less powerful brain (than Elon's, that is) you might be able to understand that - this is just basic macroeconomic understanding. Holy shit this is fucking Econ 101
Elon has 200 000 000 followers. How many of them didn't take econ 101? And this is especially in the context of chasing price gouging where it doesn't exist promised from presidential candidate (also she is literally vice president now - why is she not bringing prices down now if she knows how). Not saying that government shouldn't mess with prices but do it the right way - either destroy demand or increase supply or both. The program of paying farmers not to produce on their land to stabilize the price of wheat and the government rations of gasoline (on which secondary market was allowed - so it put some income in the families that didn't drive) are the two programs that I think yielded good results.
Government bringing the price down of good in demand is one of the bad ideas. Its problem is that it is unobvious bad idea for a lot of people. Even though wherever it has been tried - from NYC rents trough soviet car industry all the way to Zimbabwe supermarkets it has failed miserably. So probably a good chunk of Elon's audience actually doesn't know it is a bad idea. There is nothing wrong in people from time to time to explain the basics again.
His claims about being deeply involved in engineering to this day have to be impossible (SpaceX, Tesla, and Xwitter couldn't run if so much was contingent on him). It's more likely he injects himself into meetings and initiatives here and there and mostly serves as a slight derailing force to otherwise normal activities.
I have been in tech also all my life. I never felt good deep in the theory, but I always exceled at jury rigging very innovative solutions out of existing stuff. I think that Elon has similar talent - he knows the stuff that his companies do well enough and the tech there, but his real talent is to have instinctive knack where the limits are and to push the people that really dig deep to them.
I don't understand aerospace much - but the fact that we react to falcon boosters landing the same way Lila from futurama reacted to going to the moon - says quite a lot that the guy knows how to assemble amazing engineering teams and is enough of an engineer to be able to work with them and steer them.

I am armchair general and know nothing of war. Keep that in mind.
Larger war with Iran is impossible I think without Iran really pissing off the US. And that means nuclear tests or 9/11 style attack. The country is too big, too much coastline from which to fire on US ships, too much mountains. Teheran is far away, tucked near mountains, and there are limited ways to resupply. Also it is not a complete desert like Iraq so guerilla warfare will be way nastier. And Iran is a bit more disperse that Iraq and Afghanistan.
Without risking american lives - only bombing and missile campaign is possible, and destruction of the coastal facilities in the gulf.
here is topological map of Iran. Looks quite unpleasant. Not as bad as Afghanistan, but at least there you had a somewhat easy and cheap supply road trough Pakistan. Here - Turkmenistan won't help, Afghanistan is closed, from pakistan - it seems you can bring supplies to Chabnar - but you would have conquered that on first turn anyway. Turkey will probably assist half assedly - but once again mountain passes. The kurds will gladly help - but the mountain passes once again rear their ugly head.
And to get everything going you need quite some time - so it will be probably after the inauguration of the next POTUS
But Israel wouldn't mind couple of US missile strikes on Iran soil. And of course any strikes in support of Israel will cost some votes and gain some. I think we are far away from everything 2024 has in store for us.

That logic taken to the extreme leads to "go away with separate sports and have 10000 people battle royale". Sport is a mix of showmanship, rivalries, sportsmanship, capabilities of the human body, and capabilities of the human spirit. To achieve optimal mix of those - we need rules even if they are somewhat arbitrary. And well - arbitrary rules means that some people are on the fence and some are on the other side of it. Also more even chances leads to better fun betting.
I think it is trivial to also create negatives of whatever with modern tech.
