How can you be a pessimist when life is this funny?
The smart ad money should ironically be on the people that don't care about the games at all.
You are right if course, but I'm pretty sure this philosophy is why sports broadcasting have been haemorrhaging money in recent years. Scratch that, why every form of entertainment has gone to shit in recent years. Everyone is so eager to disrupt and get that new audience that we've turned everything into focus grouped bullshit.
I wonder if listening to a bunch of Cole Porter songs might help. The sound is unmistakably early 20th century and there is plenty of sex and drugs involved - he references cocaine, morphine, cannabis and drinking to excess, all as if they are totally normal elements of life.
I do. I worry that that's the biggest problem in the world today, because the soul does exist. Or we are more than our image, whichever way you want to look at it. I want to talk more about it, but I don't know how. Especially when I see people buying into media narratives, which seem to be the foundation for reality for almost everyone in my life no matter what I say to them. So many people seem to think the the world works the way the movies they watched in their formative years told them it works and no amount of loudly screaming that Hollywood isn't reality has any effect, the instant the subject changes they immediately return to basing their reality on art.
It was a mistake to wipe your history though, appropriate or not.
Jkf wasn't calling mfl objective and principled - hell like he said it says "Moms for Liberty" right on the tin.
Moms for Liberty, not principled autists for liberty. The idea they are principled and objective is an expectation only blue tribers hold, red tribers don't have to lie to themselves about women to that extent. I mean, it's pretty bad for red tribe too don't get me wrong, but not at the level of expecting a group of Floridian moms to be principled and objective.
I think this is obvious to everyone, but I hadn’t seen anyone make it explicit, and I think it should be.
I think he forgot to put another one of these at the end maybe. Everything he wrote here is either obvious or sad.
Furnishing minors with alcohol and/or drugs so that you can lure them to your house and have drunken parties with them is quintessential actual grooming behavior, like, it's literally what actual groomers do to actual minors to actually statutorily rape them.
Well at least we all agree on what groomers are now. Although personally I think that's a mistake on your part.
It's only a moral duty if you accept the state as a moral authority. If you believe in a higher authority or a superseding principle - like the idea that a person is only moral if they are responsible for their actions, then your duty is to uphold that principle. Forgoing that principle to look after your friend then puts the responsibility on you, but that is by choice.
I have also been playing palworld - it came at just the right time, because I wanted something to do while I caught up on the hilarious drama around Maddox's stalking documentary. It took me a while to get used to, because game freak had conditioned me well and I kept acting like a walking roster of pals instead of just doing stuff myself.
I also finished Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, which is a medium length metroidvania with parry based combat. And metroidvania fans can rejoice, because it nails the formula with a great map, great movement mechanics, some cool sequence breaks and some interesting biomes. And the most important element, and one that sadly gets neglected too often - the boss fights are anime as hell.
I guess start getting the dox of major Bitcoin holders and acquire a bullet proof vest shotgun and a wrench. If you are morally capable of this and as a motizen you,of course, have an IQ of at least ~130 this plan robbing unguarded bitcoin rubes should be free eats. Get on it.
Lol fucking what? How did you manage to climb on another high horse when you were already chortling from the back of a shire gelding? "If I'm morally capable of this?" I straight up said neither of us is doing this, that was my point. You are busting up laughing your ass off at how unsecured crypto is and how much danger this guy is in, but terrible people like us think terrible things all the time without acting on them. This guy isn't in danger from the imagination of some nut who derives his self esteem by misunderstanding arguments on reddit satellites.
Uhh, considering a hacker has his exact address and all of his dox including his driver's license and knows he has millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin I think that safety should probably be one of his main concerns right now considering how easily this hacker could have executed the said plan already. The main obstacle to me or you robbing this guy of everything he has he 1. not knowing who he is/who has the money and 2. where he lives. The hacker has already solved both of these issues and the man is now a sitting duck.
Uh huh. I don't see how that changes someone's disposition, but I would actually be willing to put money on this if you insist.
He needs to divest from the thing making him
and his family a humanmoneypiñata
Right?
I mean you call him a human money pinata, but he's a millionaire and I assume you are not. What does a guy who is like you but with no conscience look like? That guy doesn't know, because he's still a millionaire and you still presumably are not. I have also considered how easy it would be to rob a bitcoin brewster, but I am a bad person at heart. And yet I also note that I have only once seen that story in the news, the story of some guy with tons of crypto losing it all to sociopaths holding his family hostage. Neither you nor I have taken his money yet, so I don't think that guy is going to be swayed by your advice even if you pitched it yourself as opposed to through a guy on a forum you hateread. If I were a betting man I'd say safety wasn't one of his concerns.
Much obliged, but please tell them I'm one of the radicalising algorithms instead, I'm embracing aspirational identity.
There's more and better art available to us than at any point in human history. We just can't tell what of it will stand the test of time yet.
Excellent post overall, and not just because you included a Mili track. But I don't think you justified this line with your post, although I think you successfully demonstrated that music is not suffering the same disease as other areas of the entertainment industry. More certainly, but better?
The fact that there is too much variety is part of the problem too. Artists would like to pretend otherwise, but popularity plays a vital role in the determination of quality art, because art that "stands the test of time" is art that resonates with a lot of people. That was a lot easier to produce back when a) there were only four channels and three studios to choose from and b) content creators weren't forced to jam propaganda into everything.
Take your comedy example - pretty good production and decent joke structure, but being a youtube clip it can never have the reach of the kind of comedy that we used to get. You can't have memes spawned from memes spawned from memes based on the gay dream accusation sketch, because it just doesn't have that cultural reach. Music doesn't suffer this problem because of genres, which are being stripped from visual media as both financial and social factors force creators to colour within increasingly rigid lines.
So while I agree it's not fair to say all our art sucks, and there is some excellent stuff out there if you can find it, I do think our culturally iconic art sucks. Or more appropriately, our cultural icons aren't art any longer - they are just products.
Tennessee. Your experience kind of reminds me of when we'd visit my grandparents though, but there my grandma rang the bell to let anyone on the property know it was time to come in for dinner. But now my confidence is shot, so maybe that was to do with her Italianness.
That is great, the art is fantastic and that psalm accompanying 16 is phenomenal.
In Australia it's weird if you don't feed your kids' friends, and the same was true when I was a kid in the States, although that was back in the late eighties/early nineties. But yeah one of my early memories is of my parents scoffing at my friend's parents on the ride home for being too poor to make me a sandwich or something.
True, I was thinking of one poor guy whose job is keeping the press clean, but it would probably be a part of custodial work and one amongst many miserable jobs needing done.
Ooh boy yeah no thanks. I guess you could automate a pressure wash system to blast everything down asap after the press, but at some point some poor chap is going to have to go over it with a chisel and a toothbrush once the detritus the pressure wash misses starts to build up.
Doooo iiiiitttt.
Especially the consultants.
Edit: not because I have some weird vendetta against consultants, but because I find it more interesting when someone fucks up in a dumb way at something they're trained for.
What's the what are we reading thread? I was going to make a media recommendation thread back when we moved but I never heard back from the mods when I asked about guidelines and set up. Anyway the point is we should call it Le Motte Juste.
The prospect of spending the rest of your life in ADX Florence has a way of making even the most stubborn people see reason.
Capitulate, not "see reason". If you are going to gloat about the opportunity to use fascist tactics when you aren't getting your way at least do it right.
I’d argue TV is only getting better (although maybe the recent writer’s strike will put a stop to it).
O_o Honestly that statement seems indefensible to me, there is very little original material and so much of what we get pales in comparison to the source. You listed twelve shows, out of them a grand total of two were not based on pre-existing ip. And in my opinion, very few of them even understand the concept of respecting the source material, they are just varying levels of cargo culting what came before, because they are produced by creatively bankrupt corporations rlhfing every show into the same hr designed slop.
Edit: hyperbole toned down
Yes anything can be a problem, my point is that jokes and pranks are not in and of themselves problems, and that is a common theme I see in the discourse - the crimes men commit are perfectly legal activities that, like almost everything else on the planet, can be a problem if done with bad intentions. Following an incident those bad intentions are then assumed part and parcel with the actions, which quickly turns into those actions are tied to those intentions, which becomes those actions are the same as those intentions.
There are 750 players in the NHL. Even if junior hockey has twenty times the players, nothing they do matters or is a problem. Using a couple of thousand concussed Frenchmen to further emasculate all of society very much is.
It's really not too dissimilar, from my understanding, to the culture of similar macho, competitive sports like American football; a mix of jokes and pranks and lighthearted misogyny and homophobia (with an undercurrent of repressed homoeroticism).
I hate how everything men enjoy is treated like this. No actual issues, just innuendo and psycho-analysis in the service of emasculation.
Jokes are not a problem, pranks aren't a problem and you even noted yourself that the misogyny and homophobia is light hearted, which in a sane world would be another way of saying "not a problem". And then we get the kicker - repressed homoeroticism. No action involved is an issue, but there are problematic thoughts involved.
These young guys might be homophobic! They might be misogynists! And heh heh heh, they might even be gay themselves! What a relief that would be.
I don't understand, what does that mean for sports media?
