Ah, then why aren't Congolese the smartest strongest healthiest people on the planet then? Maybe because natural selection doesn't always select for the traits we want, maybe it just selects people that will have the most people born to them. What a crazy stance to take, so "optimal" human life for you is just the ability to pump out 10 kids that can live in poverty?

That isn't how it worked. Often is was just the one that was malnourished or late in the birth order, or unlucky in what crazy disease they caught. It wasn't some kind of fight to the finish. The smartest people haven't been winning some darwinian struggle to improve the human race since....ever.

Amazing by 1943 standards!

What? Maternal deaths were a mainstay of life for most of human history. What are you talking about?

Did it? Constant wars and plagues and famines and the rise and fall of empires over and over again, slavery, misery, death from disease. Childhood mortality at 50%, giving birth a 1 in 10 crap shoot of the mother dying. I don't think a lack of gender was helping that much.

I would temper optimism on the power grid comparison. One of the many reasons that the huge allied bombing campaigns were ineffective is that they struggled to hit anything important.

The reason americans went during the daytime despite much higher bomber losses was to use a new technique made possible by a targeting scope. So there was some real targeting and hitting what they targeted by the american bomber groups. The germans just built it back and often had the factory operating at reduced capacity the very next day.

I'm glad things are going well for you! In addiction counseling circles this is called the "pink cloud effect" and is very common in addicts who have sobered up for the first time in a long time. They feel great! They are optimistic and everything is going right, they go from "borderline depressed and listless to being full of will, oozing charisma, and generally vibing." It is an almost manic state sometimes.

The hard work will be maintaining this change over the long term. Most can't do it and fall back into old patterns relatively soon. If you want to maintain this success you need a plan to counter your eventual immunity to friend shame that will come with a few more weeks of sending reports. You'll need to up your shame dose or do an accountability detox of some kind. The human mind can get used to anything, mixing it up is the only way to make a strategy like yours work.

The grid is already back up from those attacks. There were a lot of predictions of total grid collapse last winter when they started striking actual plants and the winter before when they were hitting distribution hard. I think Ukraine has a pretty good handle on mitigation and routing at this point. I would liken it to the huge allied bombing campaigns in WW2 that were nowhere near as effective as assumed because the germans were pretty good at rebuilding quickly and making do, sure it had an impact, but it was also a LOT more devastating than what the Russians are doing, from a men and material standpoint if the west didn't have such an incredible 100 to 1 advantage on that front then it wouldn't have been cost effective. I wonder if the Russian strikes are cost effective? They wouldn't be at American smart bomb prices, but they could be at Russian smart bomb prices.

The world will be a very different place in 100 years, to the point where I can't imagine that kind of thing mattering unless we get set back by an asteroid strike or nuclear war. If you think 100 years is too optimistic then think about the world in 1000. None of this kind of thing will have any bearing on the future once machines can outthink and outwork us at every level and in every field. So, work, don't work, whatever your doing don't do it for your in group values to be present in 100 years, they won't be.

I honestly just don't see the problem with lower birthrates long term. Yes our current economic and retirement system is an unsustainable pyramid of overlapping obligations all pinned on neverending population growth.

But that ain't good! Every nice place on the planet is already overpopulated (even a lot of the shitty ones) and every great city and historical or natural wonder is being destroyed by mass tourism. We'll have bots or artifical wombs before the century is out, so all this hand wringing seems a touch performative in a kind of "it aligns with my right wing beliefs about society and women" sort of way.

I firmly believe it is a good thing to have a smaller world population than 8 billion or 10 billion people, we can increase it later if we start exploring the stars or some such. That is simply too many people that all want the same resources, it makes things shitty for a lot of them, if nothing else it makes it crowded at all my favorite spots. I don't like that.

Yup ruined all of it for me instantaneously, I laughed at the time and loudly proclaimed how stupid it was in the theater. That is my level of autism...for better or worse.

Did you mean this the other way around? Yes.

" Now you've got a situation in which women are seeking mates in the dating pool and finding only trash goblins who hack the relationship game for their short term benefit. These guys aren't Chad Playboys with amazing jet set lives who bed starlets and then move on - they're losery semi-sociopaths who have mastered the first 72 hours of dating and are utterly substanceless thereafter."

What is the difference? They got "tricked" into "sub-par" mating with someone they aren't having kids with anyway? That would dump them the same way?

In my town they didn't implement it until 2018 and it is not a state wide requirement. Most states don't require them and about half leave it up to the towns. Thanks for the link, it allowed me to find the list of states https://www.nahb.org/-/media/NAHB/advocacy/docs/top-priorities/codes/fire-sprinklers/fire-sprinkler-state-adoption-2019.pdf?rev=fb2e43a2c10249c79234ac4ef2405470&hash=93C19612CC1E730D343D25624862D0A8

A first time home buyer is also just someone that hasn't owned a house in three years. I can literally sell a property to my wife and still qualify 3 years later. 'An individual who has had no ownership in a principal residence during the 3-year period ending on the date of purchase of the property. This includes a spouse (if either meets the above test, they are considered first-time homebuyers).' Hot tip!

It is a special kind of Madness. I do almost all updates myself as you are allowed to do almost all your own work in my state and my town is also kind of wild about building codes. In my town it is residential sprinkler systems, even though we haven't had a deadly fire in 100 years. The fire chief's car even has 'residential sprinklers save lives' on the side of it, guess what the other half of his family does, you guessed it residential sprinkler systems. I would like to add another unit to my property but guess what that means, residential sprinkler system would have to be installed and inspected every single year from then on out and serviced every three. They are one more point of failure and horrific water damage, all for no real net increase in safety. The fire department is 99% ems calls .09% brush fires .009% parades and .001% structure fires already.

It NEVER stops, nothing ever comes off the books or gets easier to build. They just let everyone in town build an ADU if they want, no one has done it as it basically needs to be as expensive as your main residence due to code compliance. Same people that are "worried" about affordable housing are the ones driving up housing prices and creating cost disease. Rather have someone burn to death using a propane heater in a tent than not have r50 insulation in the roof of a new home.

This is kind of rude sir. Kind of rude indeed.

I wouldn't put it like that. I would say you feel put upon by the world and have established a life narrative where you see truly while the 'sheeple' shamble about in ignorance. You're projecting this onto you regular interactions even when they have nothing to do with DEI or MSNBC.

Women want their past, present and future to all be secure. If you can do that, then everything else is gravy. End Scene.

Do you really encounter people like that? I don't. You go grab dinner and someone starts telling you about how men should use women's bathrooms? No. You're just inventing stuff in your mind to argue against. People don't actually act like this.

Do you have some examples? Big pharma sucks but it delivers more than random bio hackers.

Here I am! AhhhhhhTheFrenching up in your shit. But I am here to support you! Fuck this shit. Society has abandoned responsibility and we are no longer allowed to institutionalize people that will chop you head off on a greyhound bus and start eating it. (lead to a cop committing suicide and the flesh eating decapitation guy getting released without supervision, as long as he pinky swears to stay on his meds). Fuck these homeless maniacs, something must be done.

You have a very different definition of rich than rich people have. Even having the level of assets that could be hidden within the constructs of that form puts him firmly in the poor house among the PMC.

Don't worry too much. Americans have been shouldering the worldwide cost of medical research for decades now. This isn't some new phenomenon. We pay for it, then everyone else gets to use it.

There are huge regulatory problems in the USA as well, the companies just have the right to charge enough to profit enormously even with those hurdles in place. It hurts everyone here, but at least we get some results sometimes. There is room for massive reform.

Or...as 5 people have pointed out, the disclosure form doesn't require he disclose certain assets.
