I would not say Greenwich Village is meaningfully better than the rest of lower Manhattan on this issue. The crowded parts closer to Washington Square Park are full of psychos. The park itself has a corner that is essentially Hamsterdam and the only place that’s worse in lower Manhattan is the area around the Bowery and Grand Street station in Chinatown

Is it just itch or dandruff too?
I had pretty bad dandruff for most of my life despite using Head and Shoulders religiously.
The only thing that worked when I was a teenager was T-Gel but I stopped using it as an adult because of the slight cancer risk (you’re basically rubbing tar into your scalp).
I suffered through some more dandruff until finding what I THINK is the solution: Nizoral shampoo. Since I started using it a few years back my dandruff is like 95% gone unless I don’t shampoo for a few days and even then it’s far less than it ever was and comparable, if not slightly more effective even, than the T-Gel.
I still use the head and shoulders because I’ve gotten so used to it and I have no idea if the effect is synergistic between Nizoral and Head and Shoulders but my understanding is that both are antifungals so I think it might be. Regardless I don’t want to risk a regression because dandruff is truly awful so I basically just use both.
Routine is basically: 2x head and shoulders 2x Nizoral 1x conditioner
And I shower about every 2 days and do that every time. I should add that since your original question was about itch, this has also basically eliminated any itching, which I believe was tied to my bad dandruff.

I used to be like this too. What worked for me is to imagine having that same argument with the person in real life. And crucially, imagining that person as either a 12-year old who doesn’t know shit, or the biggest neckbeard stereotype of all time. Oftentimes that wouldn’t even be far off the mark.
Once I created this visualization it stopped bothering me and indeed I don’t engage in any kind of argument online at all anymore. It just seemed so absurd to imagine shouting at a 12-year old or a foul-smelling fedora-toting beast in real life.

It’s coming. You can’t just nuke the market in America and expect to survive politically. It will take time but nothing Trump has done up till now has really been bad economically, so it’s easy for GOP to hang on because he kept the money flowing and people remember Trump 1 as a great time for the economy. But if all of a sudden we have GFC Part 2 and it’s 100% attributable to his actions he will be toast.
Not sure how trustworthy this is as a proxy but the comments section on Wall Street Journal articles was a MAGA shithole up till a few weeks ago. Now it’s full of people with regret and complaining about their investments and how Trump is a buffoon, etc. Once the mass layoffs and 10-20%+ inflation hit it will be over

Layoffs slowed down in tech I think.
It was really bad in 2023, not so bad now. But all of that is relative to the insane market of 2021.
It’s slowly picking up but is overall fairly healthy relative to other engineering industries. Even the 2023 market was probably way better than the market for industrial or chemical engineers has maybe ever been?
Younger people in tech definitely have it worse, no doubt about that. Even if demand had stayed static there are just way more people studying computer science now so the competition is insane. At the Big-ish Tech company I work at, internships only go to both the best and brightest students from the best colleges but also those with referrals. If you don’t have a referral you’re toast.

If your social skills are sharp, you should just go into sales. Any kind of sales, almost certainly you have some car dealerships around you and they basically take any warm body because there are an unbelievable amount of terrible sales people. Combined with your car skills you will likely become a top performer and then have a resume to go to more successful dealerships.
If you’re motivated, a good salesman, and have the knowledge, you can certainly carve out a comfortable life and maybe even quite a lucrative one if you are aggressive and make it an end goal to get to a good dealership. Some of those Finance guys and sales directors at dealerships comfortably pull in 100-200k and oftentimes more.

This is a great point. We don’t have any kind of standard for that, and I think having my colleagues categorize their comments and forcing them to think about if it’s really a blocker would be helpful.

I'm planning to start one of these next year but have run into confusing information regarding how to handle taxes (on a taxable brokerage account, not an IRA).
Is it better for the completely lazy investor (me) to put the money into ETFs vs the index funds like VTSAX? I want to minimize any time spent dealing with paperwork or tax bullshit and it seems like index funds aren't as "set and forget" as I thought in that sense.

I don’t think these crime statistics really capture the picture. How often are things even reported? In NYC many quality of life offenses have blended so deeply into the noise of city life that nobody will report it because it’s not a serious crime.
If a psychotic drug zombie is screaming at me on the subway platform about wanting to stab me and how he could kill me, is that a crime? Actually yes, it’s technically an assault under NY State law. Will anybody report it? LOL
Repeat this ad nauseam and you see how crime statistics are low but there is a massive degradation in quality of life

Not much advice, but I agree that there’s a huge gap in Turkey for this sort of thing. Start small and see what happens, just be careful not to translate anything too spicy or Baskan will come knocking.

It all depends on your risk tolerance and how much healthcare you think you’ll require in those 3 months.
If you’re otherwise healthy just get the catastrophic option, it shouldn’t be more than 400-500 per month depending on your state.
As far as I’m aware there is nothing better than what you’d find on the marketplace given your circumstances.

There’s certainly a never-say-die subset of true believers but I doubt that’s even the majority of the coalition that elected him in November. I think most people were voting against democrat incompetence on inflation and illegal immigration in that order.
If trumpflation ends up being even worse than Biden’s and comes with stagflation and layoffs to boot, I can easily see a new GOP coalition that unites around “Trump but minus tariffs”. And there’s a very clear and straightforward process to make that happen, just need the veto-proof majority in congress to take away tariff powers and let Trump do whatever else he wants

Certainly possible. My prediction rests on the assumption that we are about to see economic catastrophe worse than 2008. That’s my take at least.
If that doesn’t end up happening and we instead just have something like Covid or an average recession then absolutely he will ride out the term.
But I simply don’t see how if we have financial oblivion Trump survives. There are too many powerful elites that will also be impacted and even the average GOP voter will revolt and turn on Trump if the bread and circuses are gone

It's interesting to read your perspective on family relationships. I couldn't stand to be around my family by the time I was 17 and went away to college, never to return. My remaining grandfather, a similar age to yours, has always been a classic holier-than-thou ignorant religious prick and I also come from an eastern culture where filial piety is THE virtue of all virtues, and as a result everybody bent over backwards to kiss his ass and not upset him. I can't even imagine a universe where I would be in your shoes and missing my grandfather at all. I actively dread every time I have to go to my mother's house to visit him and the rest of my family.
All of that to say, you are lucky to have a family that you will actually miss when you are away from them. In that sense "everything will be okay" is already your reality. The material circumstances will come and go, but being able to carry that kind of family in your heart is already the endgame ideal. You already won, just enjoy the ride.

That’s a good point, but they have to have some kind of staging environment or slow rollout right? You can’t just release to all customers at once, that’s absolutely insane and asking for something like this to happen even if it’s security-critical.

Hot take but in my mind Federer is still the “better” player, at least from an aesthetic and “legacy” perspective.
I think decades from now people will still be reading about Federer’s forehand and watching his highlights, whereas they’ll just read about Novak’s insane trophy case but not actually watch him play.

Bro the wedding itself was absolute ass honestly. My wife and I both hate being the center of attention and that entire day you are the center of attention and there are so many expectations of you particularly if you come from a non-western family like I do.
Dealing with venues and vendors, who to invite, seat placements, etc. was fucking painful. Not to mention the money involved.
So it’s not weird at all that you’re excited for the marriage part instead of the wedding.
Congrats though, I’m not trying to be pessimistic just saying I feel your pain :)

I do think there are good dentists out there but man I agree. Sorry to any mottizens who are dentists but I really don’t feel like dentists deserve to be called doctors in any sense, they seem more like Nurse Practitioners if you’ve ever dealt with such people.
sure they’re knowledgeable but their “hit rate” in terms of good ones vs. seeing specialized doctors (what they claim to be) makes it apparent that they’re not in the same tier of healthcare professional.
In a way I think Gass’s response is somewhat rational. If you truly believe that Trump is a unique threat to our political system, why wouldn’t you want him assassinated?
I think there is also some meat here in that if Trump had been assassinated, most of the rest of the GOP would just have adopted his policy positions but dispensed with the insane hysteria and backlash Trump the Character generates. You don’t have to be Trump to win this election and maybe even the next election when the democrats are this incompetent. Trump ideas packaged in a more media and PMC-friendly face would be a political juggernaut, I think.
Hot take but it might have been better for people who believe in his platform for him to have actually been assassinated. Not only would it give the platform a sympathetic halo but let’s be honest here that Trump the Character is uniquely toxic for American politics. His job is done, he’s stamped the GOP in his image and realigned them, but I think his personality is holding them back at this point.
