Israel-Gaza Megathread #1
This is a megathread for any posts on the conflict between (so far, and so far as I know) Hamas and the Israeli government, as well as related geopolitics. Culture War thread rules apply.
I'm not going to link any of them but Hamas themselves were posting some pretty damning on their official home-page (helmet-cam footage and the like) before it got spiked. A couple of friends and I were actually debating whether it was taken down by the Israelis taking out the servers or by Palestinian supporters attempting to do damage/spin control.
Ikhwan Online (official website of the Muslim Brotherhood) initially posted a statement praising the attacks as an important first step in the war to liberate Palestine but has since walked it back a bit, Now they're urging restraint the proverbial "thoughts and prayers" for the people of Gaza.
I'm sure the original videos are still out there for those who have an idea of where to look, but frankly I'd rather not look.

Why are you called The Motte?
A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently,
it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey",
originally identified by
philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial
but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens
this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for
the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired
propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."
On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
