Don't have sex with your wife. Don't ejaculate when you have sex.

I'm not in that position sorry.

Why don't you lay out your arguments instead of vaguely waving in their general direction?

I was a materialist until recently and the transition was not a straightforward path. All the atheist vs theist arguments in the world had no effect on me, my worldview was set.

Until certain things happened in my life and a little bit of randomness/luck I began to start thinking differently.

I don't think its a good use of time and mental energy to get into the weeds of things because I experienced being a materialist and I had an answer for everything. It's going to sound cliché but the search for truth is a personal one and so arguing back and forth is not going to be productive for anyone. We both won't budge. There's literally no point.

However OP mentioned that he feels there is something missing in his model of reality. He mentioned that he was a materialist and so I made some assumptions and gave him some pointers on where he can continue his search for truth.

My comment was meant for OP who seems open to alternative ways of seeing reality. Not for you a somewhat unknown entity clearly ready for an argument.

Take a look into quantum mechanics and accept the many worlds interpretation as probably correct.

Take a hard Look into evolution and realise that natural selection is not enough to explain how we (humans) came to be in our current form.

Practice "pure" semen retention for 6-12 months and note down all the stuff that happens to you that's atypical. Check out /r/semenretention.

I'm not asking you to believe anything you read there I'm just asking you to self experiment. Use that sub to have an idea on what to look for.

You are kind of trapped in a materialist/physicalist box. So it's hard to break you out of it. I've given you stuff that you can research yourself that doesn't seem too outlandish from a materialist point of view.

There is a lot of discussion about the universe that is not materialist but it's happening in spaces, YouTube channels and websites that you probably don't respect.

All I can say is if you're truly after the truth you must question if you have any biases. You must question every single belief that you have. You must ask yourself "How do I know this to be true?". "Do I believe this because I did the research myself or am I just parroting something I heard from someone with higher status than me?"

bumped out pretty quickly

Okay you caught me. I also had the same experience. I just added it to my list to make it look as varied as possible.

What do you think of my little list anyway?

I will need chat GPT to decipher this comment but much appreciated. Is your startup a solution to my problem? If so please give more details.

Its funny how one comment tells me it's impossible and then one comment basically gives me what I'm looking for. Thank you.

I also refuse to give the algorithm anything. I'm not even logged in almost anywhere, and I certainly won't use an app.

I'm getting the sense that your motivation for the avoidance of algorithms is different from mine. Mine is the fear of missing out on potentially helpful information. What is yours?

You can’t.

Please tell me how sure you are of this

I am very suspicious of this (newly popular) health trend

Maybe I should have clarified but in all of those spaces/topics that I have stated there is always going to be stuff that is true and stuff that is false. I am not saying everything in these spaces/topics are true. IN FACT I am saying because I frequent these space/topics in a certain detached way I can see the flaws in these spaces/topics that other people cannot; especially those who attach themselves fully to one or two subjects.

Bill Gates and Trump have ridiculous diets, Steve Jobs had a ridiculous diet in the other direction, and Jordan Peterson has a yet more ridiculous diet. Yet all top in their respective fields.

Bill, Trump, Steve and Jordan all have star signs, heights, looks, productivity habits, personalities, social connections, family, IQ, motivations, clothes, voice, technologies, genetics, epigenetics, education, money, random events in their lives etc that contribute to their success as well as their eating habits.

I am not asking for people to validate me on the truthfulness on any one of these topics. That's a me problem. I am asking for a way to arrange such a vast amount of information in a way that I can stay up to date with new findings and eventually use this information to improve my life and the life of others.

I understand that this is a big ask. So I'm not expecting someone to just give me a fully baked working procedure. I am just asking for some initial ideas or first steps or even just guesses on how they would attempt to do this.

And if this question doesn't belong here please help me and try to think of a place that might be more receptive to a question like this.

I think they also do algorithms based on time spent watching a thing.

I understand. One aspect of my problem is how do I collect information of different formats from different places into information that actually allows me to improve my life and the life of others.

But I feel like your approach is backwards anyways.

I understand why you say this (maybe?). If I believe that sorting out information is too much for my brain why not just rely on an algorithm?

It's kind of hard to explain but having a general overview of things allows you to see that more isn't necessary better. You can go super deep on a subject and become the world's expert and still lack in other subjects.

I've seen crypto guys do the most inefficient workout routines and I've seen the genetics guys and the psychology guys struggle with the same question but from different angles but they have no idea that they can answer each others questions.

Everybody is so Silo'd that they can't really grasp the full picture. I am not saying that I have grasped the full picture but I have an overview that a specialist in their field cannot see unless they look at another field to complete the picture.

I'm watching people who have infinitely more IQ, attention, education, wealth, work ethic, etc than me make mistakes because they are siloed into an algorithm.

Okay the world is getting crazy.

About 10 years ago I made the decision to not fully allow any one algorithm to curate what content I consume. I also made the decision to not like videos, tweets, posts and other content as I was worried that when you like something the algorithm decides you want to see more of something which inherently means you want to see less of something else. I had fomo for new novel information I guess.

However there is just too much information. And every field is advancing at a rate never seen before. I need to keep up. I need to keep digesting this wonderful juicy magnificent information that my ancestors could only dream of. I NEEED IT ALL. I need to know everything. Just the fact I've avoided algorithms (not completely) for 10 years means that I have a wide range of interests and it's allowed to make novel discoveries about our world just from the comfort of my bedroom. We live in quite unbelievable times really.

Please guys how do I curate information from all over the internet ?

How do I watch the internet from above?

How do I collate information from 4chan, crypto, Data secrets lox, Productivity, history, biohacking, Lesswrong, AI , UFO, Singularity, Robotics, Ray Peat, Paranormal, Biophysics, Genetics, Epigentics, Quantum Computing, Looksmaxxing, Slatestarcodex, YouTube, Apricity, scientific studies, Substack, Astrology, Neurofeedback Autism, etc, without losing my mind?

(Partial answers and Speculative answers welcome.)

(Also if you think there is a better place to ask this question please let me know. If you think there is a better way to ask this question please let me know.)

I enjoyed this cope

Any stories? I feel like I have an intelligence fetish.

Try Lock me out.

There's also Andoff. Andoff is from the same company that makes Pluckeye which is a blocker app for desktop only.

I wouldn't recommend using andoff before understanding how pluckeye works, the very active community can help you with that.

However to install Andoff you will need to use ADB which I'm not sure if it breaks your definition of jailbreaking or not.

I'd like to hear more stories about encounters with people who are really intelligent.

Where did you meet them?

And how long did it take you to realise that they were intellectually gifted?

Anybody got any idea on how to improve executive function? I'll take even the most esoteric advice....

Another concept analogous to this is the is-ought distinction. Fact collectors care about what is and the conclusion seekers care about what ought to be.

You could also say this about autists and normies. Autists leaning towards more how things are and the normies obsessed with how things are supposed to be. Although I will admit this one is a reach.

Unrelated but, I think for a long time biology has been filled with fact collectors and not enough conclusion seekers. The conclusion seekers go into programming and engineering. Once these engineering type conclusions seekers come to the conclusion that we should be healthy forever and turn their intellect and focus on biology, that's the beginning of us becoming Human 2.0

Does getting physically beat by your parents for mistakes count as disproportionate punishment? If so, then it is a probable explanation for my procrastination.

Have you ever seen anyone cure their avoidant perfectionism? It affects every aspect of my life. Kinda getting desperate here....

Is being famous worth it? I used to think people who said no were coping. But it does seem awfully stressful.

I've seen your type before and I'm glad you have identified the problem. Many people are looking to exploit other people. The good news is that when people who have always focused on helping people focus on themselves they become dangerously competent.

This is probably not helpful but the problems you list in your post is why I have almost completely given up on opsec precautions. It's just too inconvenient and stressful.

I've come to the conclusion that these big companies have won and if they want to know details about your internet life there's little you can do to stop them.

The best way I know of coping is to tell myself that there are people who are much more interesting to government/big tech than me. Now I simply go with the flow.

rugged individualism, family structure, future orientation, rigid time schedules with time viewed as a commodity, and hard work as the key to success

You think white culture is the only culture that has these values?

What to do about a fear of judgement? Is this the same thing as self consciousness? Caring what other people think is kinda hell.

I'm trying to have an accurate view of the world so I'm (somewhat) constantly checking my confidence levels in certain beliefs. But yes you are correct the latest findings in string theory does not affect my ability to function in the world day to day.

You could say "why are you trying to have an accurate view of the world ?" and to that I don't have a real answer other than truth is a terminal value to me.

Since you're deferring to the experts for subjects you don't understand, why are you listening to Terrence Howard, who is an actor and not a mathematician or logician or philosopher or scientist?

Okay forget the word "expert" and replace it with the phrase "people with above average interest and time spent on a subject". Terrence Howard and Professor Dave have both spent more time on this subject than me so I'll listen to them both. I mean you also listened to Terrence Howard no ? Listening is not necessarily an endorsement and he popped on the biggest podcast in the world.

Honestly I wish you could turn feelings off. I dislike feeling envy, anger, hate, despair etc. It would be nice if I could just get on with my day without always questioning what's the point.

Interesting read but I think there is no useful information in that post. However he has another post that has a link to a video that says that the digital yuan will take over the petrodollar as the reserve currency. Glad I saw that, I found it convincing. I'm going to try get in early.

I believe that your confidence in believing something should be proportional to how close you are to that something.

For example I (I believe) I should not be more confident about string theory than an actual physicists that deals with the frontier of string theory on a day to day basis. Which means if the most knowledgeable string theorist is 95% sure that string theory is true/viable/useful, then me who gets all my information second hand (through YouTube videos, podcasts, articles, lectures, papers) should not be more than 95% sure about string theory.

Watching the Terrence Howard podcast I realised that I cannot defend against anything he is saying. I'm not saying he is correct. I'm not saying he is incorrect. I've simply deemed myself too far away from where the actual science happens to say anything intelligent on the matter at all.

Everything I know about physics comes from people who (supposedly) know more than most people on physics. I just took their word for it. I've never seen a proton, neutron or electron. I've never looked through a telescope and observed different galaxies. I've never sat down and really tried to understand the math that supports quantum physics. Yet I believe all these things. I just understand that I am trusting these high status people (Physicists) and their findings. But these people that I trust can be wrong. They could have missed something.

In my experience the best way to learn as a layperson is to watch experts (or people who have spent a longer than average time on a subject) debate each other and google/chatgpt/research all the points of disagreement that come up.
