I don't know what the current coastline situation is, but: more volatile weather > lower crop/fishing yields > higher food prices > more civil unrest. So climate change might not be off.

A flashlight and pepper spray. A flashlight can temporarily blind an individual at night, be used as a blunt weapon, and be brandished without issue unlike a bat, a baton, brass knuckles, a gun, or a knife. Pepper spray can temporarily incapacitate, and, more or less, be brandished without issue. Both can be concealed in a hand, or clipped to a belt. Less likely to escalate a non-fatal situation into a fatal one. Less likely to find yourself in a civil and/or criminal case.

It doesn't hurt to have an old bricked phone, decoy keys, and/or a decoy wallet to distract a thief. And, ultimately, it's best to avoid dangerous areas.

You can have a gun, but you really need to be aware of all the legal and physical risks you could encounter, and regularly train with it.

The time to try and draw the US into a war with Iran was decades ago. It strikes me as a little late now.

Off topic-ish, but after the Taliban took over Kabul in August 2021, a slew of opinion pieces were written and published on why withdrawing from Afghanistan was a mistake and how Biden's execution of the withdrawal was a disaster. A particular article was brought to my attention by a reddit post. I couldn't tell you the author or the publisher, but I do remember the article was clearly sponsored by Lockheed Martin. It wasn't just an advertisement inadvertently on the same page. And then a day or two later, the fact that the article was sponsored by Lockheed Martin was removed. I checked the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, and sure enough, the page had been edited.

I don't have proof, so take it with a grain of salt. I'm not sure what my anecdote adds other than an account of what was my first time personally catching something (kinda) getting memory-holed. I don't have much respect for mainstream media.

Hmm. Maybe Harris is better off with Andy Beshear, Roy Cooper, or Mark Kelly then.

It's possible, but I doubt it. I don't think the anti-Zionist segment of the Democratic Party are anti-Jew enough to stay home over a Jewish VP candidate. I'm not aware of Shapiro making any particularly egregious anti-Palestinian statements.

In light of a Russian court ordering the arrest of Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, why did Navalny return to Russia from Germany in January 2021 after spending five months recovering from an assassination attempt? Has his death had any effect on Russian politics?

EDIT: grammar

Yes.

I can handle about one 100+ hour game a year (if that), but it better be pretty damn good considering the time investment. I feel similarly about other forms of media (essays vs books, movies vs television shows). The shorter, the better. There's almost a power-law function/Sturgeon's Law/Pareto principle at play within the piece of media itself.

I like Epyon's whip-like heat rod. Had an action figure of it growing up.

The Gouf Custom (Norris Packard) vs The 08th MS Team is arguably the best fight in the franchise. One of my favorite Zeon mobile suits.

The four wings/binders of the Kshatriya give it a unique, alien-like aesthetic. It has a cool fight in Gundam Unicorn.

Zeta Gundam is a classic. I often played as it in Gundam: Battle Assault.

Mobile Fighter G Gundam mobile suits were amusing caricatures. Tequila Gundam's my favorite though Nether Gundam never fails to make me laugh.

Gundam Wing Endless Waltz Gundams were theatrical. Hard to pick a favorite, but Duo Maxwell was my favorite pilot, so I'll go with Deathscythe Hell.

I think so. It's a pattern similar to the schism of the United Methodist Church.

No more growth in the West. Liberal congregations recognized same-sex marriages and the ordination of non-celibate gay clergy in a Hail Mary attempt to attract and/or retain membership. Conservative congregations balked and left to form the Global Methodist Church, looking to Africa for growth.

The man, the myth, the schizophrenic computer programmer, Terry Davis.

No, for better or for worse.

One can make pragmatic arguments why "unchecked border-crossings, disintegrating families, DEI deans, and worthless degrees" aren't good and worth avoiding. I'm personally indifferent to fading churches, partially because they've been useless in preventing the current situation. At the end of the day, one has to support candidates in the primaries who are sane and support his/her favored policies. I don't see any of the above issues and the good policies to address them being abandoned anytime soon.

If his defenders are good eggs, then just treat them with kindness and respect, and steer clear of the topic of the bad actor. Hopefully you all will appear to be the better option then.

Narcissists have an alien way of thinking, and they don't change. Best way to deal with them is to cut off contact with them. Next best way is to limit contact with them and don't react when they screw with you. In groups, you gotta sniff out who's a good actor and who's a bad actor. Then you gotta build good enough friendships/relationships with the good actors so that the bad actors can't divide and conquer (or triangulate).

You'll do fine.

But in all of this I'm lost on what to actually do.

You do what you and your group did (from what I understand). You kick the bad actor out of the group. And if his defenders give the group too much grief, you kick them out too. And then you quit engaging with them. You have to be aggressive when dealing with these types of people. They're addicted to conflict. And they'll never change. Be willing to be the "bad guy" in the situation. They're wasting your time and energy. They're decreasing your happiness. That's an enemy in my book. Be sure to reinforce bonds with your allies in the group.

No, but I'm sure it doesn't help.

It saps/hijacks the motivation to exercise. Affects your neurological and endocrinological systems. Makes you lethargic. But obviously there're other factors at play: the sedentary lifestyles due to technological advances (automobile, internet, personal computer), the ubiquitousness of sugar and processed foods, the lack of quality sleep due to disrupted circadian rhythms (artificial light, eating/drinking too close to bedtime, working third shift), etc.

Comic book media for sure.

  • John Stewart (Green Lantern) and Shayera Hol (Hawkgirl) have a child (Rex Stewart aka Warhawk) in Justice League Unlimited.
  • Luke Cage and Jessica Jones have a child (Danielle Cage) via affair when Jessica Jones was dating Scott Lang (Ant-Man). Danielle Cage becomes Captain America for a stretch.
  • Kara Zor-EL/Karen Starr (Supergirl/Power Girl) is in a sexual relationship with Mr. Terrific and later a romantic relationship with Val-Zod (Superman) in The New 52.
  • (Black) Jimmy Olsen is in a love triangle with Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) in Supergirl television show.
  • Miles Morales (Spider-Man) and Gwen Stacey (Spider-Gwen) have romantic feelings for each other. Justifying it, by saying that it's an alternate dimension Gwen Stacey.

Black men taking formerly white men's superhero mantles and banging white women.

I've stopped paying close attention to any comic book media.

I would prohibit contact sports (football, basketball, rugby, field hockey, soccer, lacrosse, wrestling, hockey, boxing, futsal and martial arts with opponents) under the age of 18. Maybe team sports in general. Likely gymnastics, cheerleading, and figure skating.

I would prohibit the consumption of soda under the age of 18. Possibly.

Maybe require an hour of walking at school under the age of 18.

Basically I would try to prevent CTE, obesity, and unnecessary sports injuries. And try to save some children from their narcissistic parents.

I had to read The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, The Chosen by Chaim Potok, and Night by Elie Wiesel at various points during my Catholic junior high and high school education during the aughts. None of the discussions involved the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. It was fine.

Invisible Children gave a presentation or two during high school. This was several years before Kony 2012.

I disliked an anti-alcohol presentation given by a sadist cop. It was cut short because said cop more or less got off on stage recounting the time he busted a kid for underage drinking. Both students and teachers were not happy.

Also disliked a sex education talk given in a health class. Two speakers came in and told their stories about how STIs ruined their lives. Don't have sex kids or you'll become infertile and die. Okay.

The debate would've been far more productive with just Mouin Rabbani and Benny Morris. Destiny shouldn't have been in the same room as the other three, but it wasn't a great look for Finklestein to say the least. He really should've ignored Destiny completely. "With all due respect, you're such a fantastic moron." "You could Google it, Mr. Finkel-stinker-" A pretty pathetic interaction. I'm personally over debates as a format.

Who gives a shit if Opp loses his security clearance?

Exactly. It's not like the prevention of nuclear proliferation hinged on whether or not he lost his security clearance. That's what didn't work for me. Why's the rest of his life important? What's the takeaway? Don't associate with communism, otherwise you'll lose your security clearance?

The movie should've focused solely on the Manhattan Project and the immediate reaction to the dropping of the bombs. Or maybe the race between the two sides, getting more of the German and/or Japanese perspective.

EDIT: I think J. Robert Oppenheimer is a strange choice for a three hour biographical thriller. A documentary makes more sense to me.

Also I tend to dislike biopics due to the propagandistic nature of the genre.

I didn't watch enough movies to give a better alternative. Not Barbie. Not Killers of the Flower Moon. I liked Asteroid City better, but it wasn't even nominated.

I want to like Nolan films, but on the whole, I don't. Oppenheimer was one of Nolan's better films, but I still disliked its overall structure. School > Communism > Manhattan Project > Security Clearance Hearing > Senate Confirmation Hearing. It felt unfocused to me.

Jack Nicklaus's Golf My Way instructional video is informative. Look up beginner videos on rules, etiquette, tips, and strategy.

Stick to the driving range until you feel comfortable. Alignment sticks are useful. I'd seek out videos of proper usage. Some folks use Dr. Scholl's Odor X Spray on the club face to see where the ball connects during your golf swing.

Good luck and have fun.
