Is that how missiles work though? That sounds way smarter than I assume missiles are.
Here's the wiki on the s-300, which is likely what this was: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-300_missile_system
It seems like there is a base station with a radar on it that it uses for target acquisition, not on the missile itself.
Not only that, if you look at the photos it looks like the missile directly hit a tractor.
This is such a tired argument. Here, to put it to bed:
Go spend $200 on a bottle of Caymus Special Selection. It's one of the most popular wines there is, and it's really fucking good.
Taste it. Now go taste the $8 bottle you got at Trader Joes. See how they taste completely different? You're welcome. And also it turns out that the rich people spending $200/bottle aren't stupid, they're just richer than you and you're jealous.
The problem with “fraud” is that there is no individual guilty of a crime.
Take Arizona: is it fraud that the printers just happen to malfunction on the day where most republicans are actually casting their votes? And is it “fraud” when nobody knows what to do about this for a few hours? This very clearly benefitted Katie Hobbs (who conveniently is also the person in charge of elections in the state), but…she wasn’t running around messing with printers.
Who is the guilty person here?
Isn’t that point kind of moot when remote voting has become the norm in Arizona?
This is just so far beyond parody that I can't handle it.
Katie Hobbs, who refused to debate or engage with the campaign in any meaningful way, is also in charge of running the election and now immediately in the morning the system that she (yes, she, since she is literally tasked with it) set up is collapsing.
And while all of this is happening, she is asking for a promotion. Insanity.
How long did it take to count races in the 1990s?
It just seems like pure insanity to me that we use these machines to do our elections.
Trump was never going to announce his run at a random rally in Ohio.
People talk, still, about the moment that he came down the escalator in trump tower. Of course he’s going to make a huge show of his announcement by doing it at mar a lago.
did you honestly believe Trump was a Hitler-to-be
Something that is endlessly frustrating to me: Hitler isn't infamous for wanting to "end democracy", he is infamous for the industrialized extermination of millions of people in death camps. Do I think Trump wanted to construct death camps and lock millions of people inside of gas chambers and kill them and then bury them in mass graves? No. Do I think Trump wanted to set up a secret police force to go house to house and look for members of some ethno-religious group and then load them onto train cars and send them to death camps where they would either be vivisected, starved to death, or force into gas chambers? No.
I think Trump wanted to build a wall to prevent illegal immigration, and to avoid the US getting pulled into another world war. It is a source of endless frustration to me the work that American Liberals are doing to rehabilitate adolf fucking hitler into "a bad guy with some bad ideas about elections".
I’m not homophobic in any way, but I’m not interested in this movie because I’m just…not gay.
Other movie genres I’m not interested in: marvel movies, children’s movies (although I repeat myself, HA!), movies where old people get their groove back, sports drama movies (except Rudy), slasher/gore movies, anime…I don’t know I’m sure there are many others. My point is that while I don’t have any problem with gay people, I’m not gay myself and won’t seek out gay media in the same way I don’t seek out gay bars.
If a friend invited me to go see this movie, I would go, but again I don’t think then would because I’m not in the target audience.
Target audience for this movie is about 10% of the total population, or about 5% since only men. Meaning this movie if Herero would have done about $200M in sales.
Target a tiny audience and get a tiny box office. Simple as.
Elon is a fraud
This is genuinely one of the most confusing takes to me, and I kind of assume it is bordering on a social contagion.
A fraud in what way? I have a Tesla model Y. It is by far the best car I’ve ever driven, and I’ve driven many many cars that are substantially more expensive than this one.
I have a starlink and use it. It works, and when compared to its competitors, absolutely embarrassed them. They aren’t competitors.
SpaceX is clearly a real company which absolutely revolutionized space launches, and has eviscerated anybody who could reasonably claim to be a competitor. It isn’t even close.
As far as self driving: yeah actually my model Y does self drive, and I use it every single day. The “well actually it’s not self driving and it crashes into pedestrians!” YouTube hoaxes are 100% of the time people using autopilot as if it were self driving. It isn’t, and those people shouldn’t be doing that.
I just absolutely fail to see how anything Elon is doing is “fraudulent” especially since I use some of the products and they are almost indistinguishable from magic.
I predict twitter becomes substantially more popular and profitable.
Possibly brings back vine to compete with Tik Tok.
Trump account is supposed to be back on Monday.
What were they supposed to do?
Listen to all of the smart people who were screaming at the top of their lungs that this sort of thing was exactly what was going to happen, and work to avoid it.
Yeah I know. I think it’s more that they see “special forces operator operations operative” as high status, and therefore a prize to be won.
I was just having fun steelmanning it.
I'm mostly kidding about the overweight thing. Most of the really good hackers I know are also in really good shape (they see their body as another thing to hack).
Maybe this is good (actually, hear me out).
There is definitely a place for the 6'5", 300lb psychopath with a 140IQ who can skydive into a warzone, storm a compound, and save the proverbial princess/kill Osama Bin Laden.
That is some version of "most scariest war fighter imaginable".
But there might be another version of "scariest warfighter imaginable" that looks more like a stinky overweight hacker who can build anything out of scraps and could take the bus into conflict zone and demo a bridge using materials he can find at the grocery store. Or who can build improvised drones out of things at the toystore.
I think there is a place for elite hackers in the military, too. Having known what some of the military's hackers look like, they aren't anywhere close right now. It seems like Tier1 guys get a lot of leeway in the way they want to work, so long as they provide the results that are asked of them.
I think the CIA is sortof kindof trying to fill this role right now, but unfortunately the problem is that the stinky annoying autistic genius hackers I'm talking about would never, ever, ever pass the interview.
None of this should come at the expense of the 6'5" pipe hitters. We should have both.
She went off about how terrible the US is, and then went out and found out that so much of the rest of the world is a lot worse.
It's not that people are happy she is suffering, it's that she's getting some perspective.
Dude, if you're not interested in pointless minutia of politics you're in the wrong forum.
That's a good point. I think it was just early and I wanted to rib the brits a little bit. Low quality post I'm going to delete anyway.
Why would you expect people to know the history of what are effectively pointless political parties within a dead empire? I also don’t know the specifics of any of your soccer teams, and if their drama kept getting covered in the news, I would similarly be pontificating above why anybody cares.
I get it if you live there, I’m just saying that to me, from the outside, the UK reads like a reality TV show. Unfortunately it seems like the US is on the same trajectory, btw
Yeah those are also really stupid names that sound kind of silly.
This is why I find the examples of companies like Amazon paying to fly women around the country for abortions so disgusting.
“Noo, nooo… we are your family! Don’t create a family outside of us! If you have children, we will help you kill them. Never leave us!”
It’s…dare I say satanic.
I'm not Jewish, I'm Catholic. I have to be honest, though, I'm a bit jealous of the Jews. At least they're willing to defend themselves.
Is what Kanye said threatening at all? No. Was he calling for "death" to anybody? No, he misspelled "DEFCON". But the reaction is predictable. Everybody regardless of how much /r/atheism posting they have done in that past immediately coming to condemn him for saying something critical.
Jews encourage their kids to learn Hebrew. They assign a cultural importance to their history. They encourage people to marry within their culture.
These are good things, or at least good things if you care about the continuation of Jewish culture. I wish that the Catholics could take a lesson from them and start teaching Latin again, start acting like they control a majority of the supreme court, and start self advocating. Build Cathedrals because you're the Catholics and you can and you have a 2000 year history of doing so.
I actually like Kanye West. I think he's completely manic, but...I think that is the basis of his artistic genius (and I do think he is an artistic genius). I also really like the jews. This whole thing has a weird timbre to me because it's groups/people I like supposedly fighting each other but doing so by acting out the thing that makes me like both of them. Interesting.
Teach them python. Give them all domain names, and digital ocean droplets.
Let them troll each other. Fin.
I think the terms just changed.
Alt right originally just meant the same thing that MAGA does now. It was conservatives who didn't identify with the likes of Mitt Romney or the Bushes. Alt rights were in favor of limited, but useful government, in favor of religion, but as a structure for families and communities, not the weird evangelical stuff you used to see from conservatives (so: Catholic).
Eventually the media succeeded in convincing people that "alt right" was equivalent to neo nazi, so people stopped using the term. I still people say it to each other ironically. For instance: "I don't think that the CIA should be telling facebook what news stories to allow on their platform because I think that is election interference. I guess I'm an alt right neo fascist."
