I’d take that deal. Utah’s fantastic, and mormons are way better than haredim. I would prefer a slightly more northern location though, but that’s just haggling.

Why? Unironically, the US is good and kills bad guys, Russia is bad and kills good guys. There’s no reason to hold different parties to the same vague principle, abstracted and zoomed out to such a degree as to blur the line between good and evil.

There’s no shift in the messaging, it’s explicitly telling white men kneel. Note that in the equivalent for black dudes, they are referred to as men. White men are not allowed to be referred to as “men”, that would be too masculine = dominant. They are being put down and infantilized, and then told to smile about it. This is obvious and transparent in all subtext.

Hell, just note the pettiness in this quote:

Bannon said to beat Trump and overcome his support with white men, Harris is going to have to generate excitement among other demographics, including white women, young voters, and Black voters.

This isn’t a direct quote from any dem representative, but The Hill is obviously dem aligned and it’s just so ironic in its utter disrespect. This is what they really think.

Why not? It’s creating an incentive structure in the correct direction. Until now, Hamas leadership was feeling perfectly safe and comfortable sending their people to die for them while they sit on a growing pile of money in Qatar. Now they might feel they have skin in the game.

Haniyeh wasn’t in charge of military operations, he was in charge of policy. He’s kinda like the president of Hamas, not a general. If used right, I think it’s good to assassinate uncooperative leaders like that.

Maybe the next guy will be more willing to negotiate for the hostages’ return, in exchange for his own life. It’s certainly good to put some fear into these guys’ hearts.

It’s all rather embarrassing. The MKs involved are from the coalition parties, which makes things even worse. It seems like Likud et al just can’t get past their revisionist roots so they must always play the revolutionary underdog role, even when they’re supposed to be the rulers.

In any case, everyone involved is from the Israeli Jewish mainstream, so real violence isn’t likely.

Edit: forgot to answer, as far as I understand the prisoner had a broomstick shoved up his ass. Pretty sick.

Out of curiosity, does that hold true at the cost of your own skull? At the cost of your children’s skull?

What if it’s a more sensible 7-8 digit pile of skulls? (9 digit means reaching at least ~10% of china’s population, which seems excessive).

Would it matter to you if roughly half of the Arabs between the river and the sea are actually descended from recent Egyptian / Levantine work migrants, who moved to mandatory Palestine in the early 1900’s?

It’s not that they’re Druze, it’s that they’re these specific Druze. If they were from one of the villages a bit more to the west, where they serve in the IDF, that would be a different matter. To harm civilians in Majdal is like shooting at Syrians as far as the rest of the Arab world is concerned.

You misunderstand. Hizbollah’s denial implies that it was a different militant faction, not that it’s Israel’s fault. Meaning the ones responsible are e.g. some Syrian militia group.

He can totally ignore it. He can take Hizbollah’s denial as truth, mumble that we’ll find the ones responsible for this reprehensible crime, and move on to the next thing. Frankly, most Israelis won’t really care.

I think there should be a major news story every time civilians are killed in Palestine.

If by “Palestine” you mean Gaza, Judea and Samaria, then that’ll be several times a day since the start of this war. There’s no bandwidth for that many ‘major’ stories.

Importantly, the victims are ex-Syrian Druze. They don’t recognize Israel as the legitimate sovereign in the Golan (or at least, their leadership doesn’t formally acknowledge it), most won’t accept an Israeli citizenship, and so didn’t evacuate like the Jewish residents of the Golan and most of northern Israel.

Hizbollah is denying any responsibility, but it’s pretty obviously their doing. It’s perceived as friendly fire for them.

This must be very confusing for people used to virtue signal on (current thing). He’s performing the right signal for his crowd, he thinks, but then a small change of context reverses the polarity of it all. Did he expect that reaction?

I was saying that every time I pointed a gun at a civilian, and most times I ever pointed a gun at a bad guy, they would immediately freeze and back off. I’m not suggesting threats can let you see into man’s heart.

All sources report her as being 36 (e.g. here). She does seem much older in the videos.

As far as I can tell, she already got up to go to the stove before he said anything. He points towards the kitchen, the looks up, says “One second,” and goes to the stove. I don’t quite understand what the cop says after that, he seems to be talking to the other cop maybe, but the “we don’t need a fire” part is said when she’s almost there. And then why is she even picking up that pot and walking towards the cop with it?

I’m less than 180 and don’t like obscenities, but like I said that’s my experience. Only cases I’ve seen that act differently were out to get someone - but even some of those would freeze. I’m open to hearing others’ experiences, of course.

It would if there was a full context added to that, and if news media was trustworthy enough that we’d know they’re not lying by omission. As it is, it changes nothing for me.

@ulyssessword linked a fuller video, here: https://youtube.com/watch?v=HFun2GydGyU

There are no breaks in that video.

What are you talking about? She doesn't have a gun.

Edit: To clarify, I wouldn't classify any kind of operative as "innocent" anyway, so the cops aren't "innocent" in that case. Maybe "civilian" or "non-combatant" would be more accurate?

I don’t hear the cop telling her that at all. There’s a boiling sound, I think, then Massey looks up from her purse. Then:

Massey: “One second, ” and she gets up.

Cop A: to cop B “Check on (her?)”

Massey: “… let me get this” she goes to the stove.

Cop A: “Oh(?), we don’t need a fire right over here”, which I interpret as him assenting to her moving to turn off the stove.

Massey: Turns off the stove, boiling sound subsides. “Let me see” as she picks up the pot. “Alright, OK(?)”, as she walks towards the cop with the pot in hand.

Cop A: laughs

Massey: “Where are you moving?”

Cop A: we don’t see him moving “huh?”

Massey: “Where are you going?”

Cop A: “Away from your hot steaming water!”, laughing tone of voice.

Cop B, simultaneously: “Nowhere.”

Massey: “Away from my hot steaming water?”

Cop A: “Yeah.” Not so laughing anymore.

Massey: “Ahh, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.”

Cop A: “huh?”

Massey: “… rebuke you in the name if Jesus”

Cop A: We see his hand on his weapon already, before Massey finishes her sentence. “You better fuckin’ not or I swear to God I’ll fuckin’ shoot you right in the fuckin’ face!”

Massey: says something, I don’t know what.

Cop A: Unholsters weapon, aims at Massey.

Massey: Ducks behind counter: “OK, I’m sorry!”, other angle shows she has no pot in her hand after ducking.

Cop A: “Drop the fuckin’ pot!”

Cop B: “Drop the fucking pot!”

Cop A: “Drop the fuckin’ pot!”

Then view is blocked, we hear shots etc.

I don’t recognize the symbol. What is it?

Thanks for the timestamps.

I think she was trying to ambush them, which is why she had the pot boiling to begin with. Her motivation is likely “being crazy”. That said, the shoot could have been avoided by backing off behind the corner, but the cop may have had other considerations such as protecting his partner. It’s pretty hard to say from the videos.
