Hit up Penang's for dinner. Excellent rec.

For video games, Civ5 or Slay the Spire. You can play a just a few turns or kill an hour until your head is back on straight.

Infotainment YouTube: Tasting History, Abroad in Japan, James Hoffman, The Modern Rogue, and How to Drink are my go-tos.

Those are also great times to do small mindless chores, like wipe down the kitchen sink/counters, sweep the floor. With the temperatures dropping, this week I put plastic film on the windows after work.

I'm not sure what your literary tastes run to but I usually keep a couple "popcorn" books on hand; books that'll occupy your brain just enough for a light mental meal. The Reacher series, memoirs of a d-list celebrity, or some pseudo-history (for sheer entertainment spectacle).

ETA: Videos of cows getting their hooves trimmed is oddly peaceful. Something about returning things to a clean pristine state, I guess.

Off to PAX Unplugged for the weekend. Any Philly food recs other than cheesesteaks?

I'm not terribly familiar with French history but didn't he walk back a lot of the more progressive things the various post-Revolution governments did?

Picked up Wine and War by Don and Petie Kladstrup after a hiatus. It's a light, informal history of the French wine industry during the Nazi occupation.

Doesn't monarch imply blood-line succession?

I don't feel good about it, but I can't say I disagree. Like @Rov_Scam said, the medical staff is there to provide medical care first and foremost and you probably don't have the capability to make Hamas go away. This situation isn't too much different that what Doctors Without Borders or other medical NGOs face in a dozen different geographic locations wherever there's an ongoing civil war or armed insurrection. There's almost no way you're only treating innocent civilians without providing medical care to guerillas too.

"No, yer Honor, I wasn't trying to cause trouble. I just really thought it was important for my doctor to have 24/7 live-feed to the inside of my colon. Honest."

Your reply to TIRM on down was about Feinstein, so that's what I addressed in my comment.

As far as evidence, we'd need to be able to take a look at who's getting permits in CA but that data isn't FOIA-able due to privacy issues. There was a leak a while back but it looks like that dashboard is now offline.

Can't it be both? She faced an unusual threat but she was allowed to carry a weapon due to her prominence? If she was a business owner who faced a similar threat would she have been granted the permit? Were other people facing similar threats granted permits? It'd be interesting to review the permit applications to make an assessment but I don't think they're PAI. Feinstein says she voluntarily gave up her permit after she decided NWLF wasn't a threat to her (along with her cute little story about melting it into the cross for the Pope) but it rings a little hollow considering she had a tax-payer funded armed detail for her protection at that point.

With that disclaimer out of the way, I do have some interesting secondhand information about this topic. I have quite a few friends and family who are active military, and every single one of them has told me that the higher-ups are pushing pretty much anyone who can string two words together into a sentence to move into recruiting.

Yep. They just hey-you-ed a bunch of people trying to fill recruiting ranks.

You're assuming that single woman is going to want to marry you.

Oh god, is this EuphoricBaseball's resurrection?

The ongoing sanctions on Iran might have something to do with their continued funding of terrorist groups.

Should I proceed to defend myself from those men effectively enough they will summarily execute me.

Nonsense. Do you have evidence of this happening at a statistically-significant rate?

I realize this is a deeply personal matter but have you considered a much longer effort-post on this? I've never heard of conversion therapy working before outside of some thathappened-style stories.

Uh, where did Hamas come into this? I made no mention of Hamas, Israel, or any of that in my comment. The fuck are you on about?

which is striking symbolism of how Americans are being liquidated to be replaced by foreigners

I'm trying to be charitable here, so can you explain what you mean by liquidated? The phrasing here seems to imply you think Americans are being deliberately killed/destroyed/geocide-ed in order to make room for foreigners or immigrants and I'm just not aware of any evidence of that. If you're referring to falling birth rates, well, it isn't the foreigners' fault that Americans aren't having enough unprotected sex.

EDIT: Typo

Very interesting that reddit native americans are so hostile toward 'pretendian hunters' as a perceived attack on the sovereign right of each tribe to decide who counts as a member.

I don't know about Canada, but in the States there's often a financial question involved (casino royalties or whatever). I used to live near a rez and would occasionally overhear stories of tribal political squabbles when someone had a few too many beers. This lady over here gets her second cousin on the tribal rolls for a scholarship, this guy over here gets 30 people who've lived on the rez their whole life purged from the rolls because everyone gets an extra 30 cents a month or something trivial. Shit gets stupid.

What do you think would have been the best response for Israel here and why?

Echoing @HalloweenSnarry, this isn't so much psychosis as it is a mix of naivete, delusion, wishcasting, and some typical-minding. I had a conversation earlier this week with someone who basically holds this kind of turn-the-other-cheek view about both the Hamas attacks and the 9/11 Al Qaeda attacks on the US. To him, quiet national stoicism and a call for peace would have had such a psychologically-resonant impact that terrorists would see the error of their ways, realize that Jews and Christians aren't the evil monsters the terrorists envision them to be, and just lay down their weapons. Maybe a round of Kumbaya while we're at it.

And honestly, I think it might work for some small margin of people, but to think Hamas is going be emotionally overcome by that kind of sentiment is foolhardy at best.

Examples? Truthsocial has less activity than Twitter. Voat or whatever that was shutdown a while back. What's the conservative version of FB?

Being frank, a good chunk of the US wouldn't trust this not to be weaponized against them. Given the institutional capture of psychology by the left, I can't really say I blame them.

We could try resurrecting the Schlatter plan.

Being honest, I never understood why I was supposed to care about Thundberg at all. I didn't really care about her tantrum at the UN, I care even less about her opinions on the Palestinian issue. Is she really still influential enough that people care that she has a only-if-you-squint antisemitic trope in her posts?
