Hmmm I guess I will try more to get into it, sounds like I need to dedicate some time to getting into the experience.

Idk I've never been one to get immersed in video games, any tips for getting into this mindset? Or like questions to think about as I play?

6 classes? hOLY CRAP! THAT'S A LOT

Nice man I'll check it out

I'm trying to play RDR 2... I'm just so bored. The scenes are so long. I'm still in like the intro town and man every time I fk up a mission I have to repeat so much.

Kind of annoying, but I've heard such great things I'm trying to slog into it at least a bit.

Cool! I might hop back in with you. Are there new game modes and such? I think I got tired of how stale the same old thing got after a bit.

Decrease in political activism: parents of 2+ children between 0 and 18 don't have the time.

Eh this wouldn't work. Then all the non parents would just become activists trying to convince the parents.

I actually think this is the correct answer. Idk if 'status' is the right frame, but the subtle propaganda of media showing the fun partying lifestyle as ideal, even for middle aged people, is incredibly harmful.

Not sure about the tax on single people, but tax on DINKs I guess... but then ppl would pretend to not be together to try and dodge the tax. Either way, probably a good idea.

how do you sort for all the threads at once though?

With the recent news of X being banned in Brazil, it seems we're entering a new stage of the ongoing battle between major, multinational corporations and governments.

A common talking point on the left is that Musk is making a hissy fit out of Brazil, but has been happy in the past to censor for 'outgroup' countries like Turkey, China, et cetera. While I haven't looked into the truth of these claims, I think it's interesting to take them at face value, and ask why that's a problem exactly?

We have clear evidence that Facebook, Insta, Twitter, etc all heavily and not even secretly censored anti-right wing information (and even just true information) during the Covid pandemic especially, but also around other, more political topics.

So in this case, I suppose the question comes down to - if most people on the left think that censoring information during covid and around the 2020 election was fair game, why is it not fair game when someone on the 'other side' does it back to them?

Now personally I think that the censorship around covid was far more egregious, but again I'm hoping to pose a general question about freedom of speech, especially for these incredibly powerful media tech companies. Are we entering an era where elections are mostly decided based on corporate censorship? Are governments going to just cede power to the technarchs gently, or will there be more and more lawfare against them?

I don't think e.g. Brazil can really pressure someone like Musk much, but the battle between him and the EU, as well as the left side of the U.S. government, is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

Ok yeah no, I bring in millions for my company pretty directly every year. Jesus I didn't realize how fake some of these jobs were... absolutely absurd.

Ooho I love this! Pls do this more :)

Can you explain what exactly a fake email job is? Sometimes I worry I have one lol.

Cigars! I've been getting into them since I stopped smoking cigs/spliffs/vaping and man they are so nice. The occasional cigar, especially with friends and a nice beer or glass of whisky, is hard to beat.

Also, ice cream and a bubble bath. Mmm.

Reading Journey to the East by Herman Hesse. It's pretty incredible, and quite short.

In general I’ve always disliked freedom of speech. At best it’s a useful tool for dissidents and political opposition to the current prevailing ideology, given I dislike much of that ideology.

At best it's a useful tool for dissidents? Come on, this is an extremely weak take.

The best version of free speech is that the best ideas, and people, can float to the top. Even if you believe in the orthodoxy, if the reigning elite are smart and not tyrants they can use free speech to suss out their own weaknesses, and address them proactively.

Free speech allows for information to flow from the bottom to the top of a hierarchy in a quick and healthy way, letting society pivot and be nimble.

On top of this, it lets people in a society feel they are being heard, and have something to do besides just be ruled over with an iron fist. This means they're more productive, more fulfilled, and can help with social cohesion if people are able to coordinate over the identity of being a citizen.

I'm now curious about what @coffee_enjoyer would say about this as well?

Forgotten City was great! Just too short imo but very fun.

Hmm very interesting take! I always like your... unique ideas about scripture, heh.

They smell nice and feel nice on your skin. I like to dab some on before I meditate.

ty! didn't realize he had a substack sweet. you the best

1.] How important is your alma mater for job opportunities with a CS degree? While I want to transfer to my preferred school for a variety of pragmatic and personal reasons, I do have a not-insignificant scholarship at my current institution.

getting a good internship while you're in school will obviate/dramatically offset this issue. I would focus on getting good summer interships/taking a year off to intern a bit before graduating as opposed to changing schools

What are job prospects for a CS degree looking like in the next 5-10 years?

Nobody really knows, but probably not as good as the last 5-10 years.

Yep knowledge lovers vs wisdom lovers. A tale as old as time.

Absolutely. It's more of an experiential guide, from my perspective.

If you aren't into serious meditation/contemplation you may not find it very useful. But ultimately it describes the state where it feels as if your self drops away and you merge into full union with God/the Universe/experience w/e you want to call it.

Well basically, there's a bunch of chaos and things are up in the air. That means opportunity to form something new.

their entire temperament is wrong to "conserve" anything. Their have that typical silicon valley mantra of "move fast and break things".

I disagree. Actually much of the libertarian right, via a ton of really weird reverse-engineering of religion through game theory and such a la @coffee_enjoyer, have come to genuinely respect religious institutions and social coordination mechanisms.

In fact, a few of them have even genuinely converted to religious beliefs privately, I have heard through the grapevine. (Not the figures I mentioned, but some in that space)

We're going through a massive religious revival at the moment, it just hasn't gotten the public's attention yet due to censorship of anything right-coded and the tight grip of the media. I don't think it will be long before you start to see more and more of these figures publicly coming out as religious.

Ok wow yeah those are a bit intense. Interesting.

Beautifully said. I absolutely agree with this.

We have an incredible opportunity with the current political realignment to reintegrate Goodness with politics. I say we take it.
