Yes, the only people who can resist the Ring are people who never use it, and they make sure they can never use it by never allowing situations where they can use it; Gandalf and Galadriel both resist the Ring when offered it, because if they did take it, it would corrupt them.

Tolkien wrote a story where the Ring was a strong temptation to evil, but there were stronger things still (friendship, or duty), which one could use to resist the temptation. Jackson got the first part, but whiffed hard on the second.
Tolkien wrote a story where literally everyone succumbed to the ring or knew they would except Sam, regardless of their thoughts on friendship, or duty, or... anything. The only form of resistance anyone truly offered was refusing to be exposed in the first place and take the ring. And in the end, what saved the world was not the rising of good, but the self-destruction of evil.

I'd say the side that thinks they need as many men with as many guns as possible patrolling the streets patting down anyone who looks suspicious are more frightened of crime and less confident in their ability to deal with it than the side that thinks you can deal with it via social workers and suchlike.
Arming up with guns and patrolling your territory is dealing with it. I'm not afraid of criminals, but I nevertheless support putting them down violently, and making sure they can't organize.

You genuinely believe the average person thinks life is doomed to a political back and forth, rather than people eagerly anticipating and expecting their permanent majority? From my end of things, it certainly seems that a sizeable chunk of the electorate believes it has a long-term cure for that pesky "losing elections" problem, whether that be from fortifying them or changing demographics (a fact widely celebrated in the open, so long as you don't call it Replacement Theory).
I do not think it's coincidence that the left has veered sharply more censorious in tandem with the left exerting ever-greater control over the nation's social and political future. And I don't think it'll be coincidence when the Right takes power and suddenly ditches this free speech angle to suppress the degenerates, the globalists, the groomers, etc.

The argument is that "the right to speak your mind without being punished" - i.e., that the Powers That Be should not be able to define what you are or are not allowed to say - is innately valuable.
How can speaking your mind be valuable if the speech itself is not? What about you, random person, is so incredible that the mere act of saying your shitty thoughts out loud transforms them into something worthwhile?

You can't tell me you haven't realized "punch a Nazi" is not literally about punching Nazis. That's just the catchy slogan. The essence of the message is "kill disliked right-wingers".
The continuum theory of violence is cute, but false. The lack of overt calls to murder are merely for plausible deniability. Everyone who unironically posts punch a Nazi is also cool with the Nazi getting righteous comeuppance from a brick to the skull.
Most people are perfectly comfortable with the thought of their political enemies being murdered. What people are not comfortable with is being seen for what they are.

As I've noted before, the thing with women being more left-wing than men is actually quite a recent development; up until the 70s, in Western countries, women were more likely than men to vote for conservative parties, while socialist parties were more appealing to men.
The social dynamics of modern left and right can't be compared like this. Once upon a time socialists were rough-handed labor unions, honest-to-God revolutionaries, and other manly sorts; modern socialism is decidedly unmanly, and is quite substantively not the product of rough-handed men.
Women became leftists when leftism became feminism and all the men left to go right.
