My impression is that Desantis first needed to be undermined because he bucked the narrative on Covid policy. No mask mandates, no vax mandates, he didn't close schools and businesses. Maybe it's just b/c I'm in public health, but I first remember hearing about Desantis when the consensus was that Florida MUST be cooking the books on their Covid numbers because his reckless leadership was obviously killing Grandma. And if the data disagree, the data must be lies..

If your sign says "customers with dogs prioritized", and I don't have a dog, it seems reasonable to wonder what exactly that means about my ability to get a sandwich at your establishment. I only have an hour break for lunch, maybe I should just go to the place down the street.

Or perhaps were caught for one murder and not linked to their others. There could be 5 unsolved murders where the perpetrator is in jail for his 6th.

some people treat servers in restaurants and assistants in shops, essentially barking demands at them. From an American standpoint, that makes a fair amount of sense

Even in America, I would say that is generally seen as rude, at least in every social circle I've ever been in. It of course happens with more or less frequency, as every server ever will tell you. But it's also one of the red-flags women talk about - see how your date treats the waitstaff, that's how he'll treat you when no one is around.

You don't say, "Hey, excuse me, this steak isn't properly cooked," you say, "Sorry to bother you, but is it possible that this steak is a little undercooked? If so, would you mind giving it a few more minutes on the grill?

To your point about cultural differences, I would be genuinely confused by the second approach. Unless it was just obviously raw, my first thought would be "Are you asking me to taste your steak and decide if it matches my preferences? Why?"

or incest against a minor, and the rape or incest has been reported

I'm curious why it seems every discussion concerning abortion exemptions seems to include this. It seems redundant to me - surely incest with a minor is a class of rape?
