“Kids” and “puppies” are already infantile language though. The proper terms are “children” and “dogs.” Honestly, where does it end with you people?

Another one. I absolutely despise “kiddos,” “doggos,” and “puppers.” I instantly and significantly downgrade my opinion of anyone who uses any of those words.

As if to further drive home your point, Kwanzaa—the one traditional African cultural celebration Americans used to know about—isn’t even African. It was invented by a black American radical activist in 1966 as a replacement for Christmas.

That’s it exactly. Most STEM fields are extremely male-dominated, but Biology is (or was ten years ago) over 60% female.

It’s slightly more believable when you consider that Trump only got 5.4% of the vote in D.C. in 2020. And of course, not every officer would need to be in on it, just the higher-ups. I’m not claiming that there was a conspiracy, but your particular objection doesn’t seem to me to hold much water.

I hope I’ve peaked your interest.

That’s a mute point.

When you say, “any h word,” do you mean any word that starts with H, or just the ones that start with a voiceless glottal fricative? Surely you don’t mean you’d write “a hour” or “a honor”?

the first sound in "homage" is an H, not a vowel

No, it’s not. At least not if you’re American.

Hmm, never mind. The site’s still having issues.

Most of those European ethnicities used to be poor and underperforming, and weren't considered "white" until they gradually integrated into the melting pot culturally

A common liberal myth, usually mentioned with specific regard to the Irish. But no, not counting the idiosyncratic views of Ben Franklin, no one considered southern or eastern Europeans to be anything other than white. This is especially obvious when looking at their legal status in states that banned miscegenation. WASPs may not have been legally permitted to marry blacks, but they were always allowed to marry the swarthy Italians, Poles, Slavs, Spaniards, etc.

I was having trouble all day yesterday and part of the day before. It seems to be fixed now.

The Motte is very, very slow… again.

Anyone know if this is a new problem, or just a recurrence of the old?

I'm sure in 73 people knew the Exorcist wasn't real, but maybe they felt like it could be real?

It was advertised as “based on a true story,” and it really was, insofar as a 1949 exorcism helped inspired the novel that the movie was based on. I imagine viewers at that time may have been less skeptical of “based on a true story” claims than they are today, not realizing just how tenuous most of those connections are.

Reynolds v. Sims has a lot to do with it. To summarize, in 1964, the Court ruled that having fixed districts (e.g., one state senator per county) unconstitutionally violates the “one man, one vote” rule.

Whether they achieve much, I don’t know. I do know that in my industry, the “young” group also has a cutoff age of 40. I wonder if that is perhaps somewhat common in well-established organizations and clubs.

I feel like that meetup is probably worth a separate post

Please do!

I saw a tweet that read,

Beyoncé released a song called "Bodyguard" to hide the Google search results about her yearlong affair with her bodyguard. Same thing is happening here with "Peter Thiel antichrist"

It doesn’t seem too far-fetched.

Clean-shaven privates just look better. I’m pretty sure that’s all there is to it.

YouTube used to be very good at recommending interesting, relevant content. It still occasionally recommends a gem that I would never have known to search for otherwise.

I agree with most of your comment, but this:

Even for non-catholic groups, they were still Christian

is kind of a funny framing, given that America was a mostly Protestant nation that begrudgingly accepted Roman Catholics. It would have been more accurate to say, “Even for non-Protestant groups, they were still Christian,” though not all Protestants would have accepted that designation.

I think the assumption is that public school administrators are, which seems broadly fair at first blush.

Sticking with the Simpsons, I’d love to see the nature film “Man vs. Nature: The Road to Victory.”

You probably already know this, but “What’s My Crime” was a parody of the popular show “What’s My Line,” which originated in the United States, but which also spawned over a dozen international versions. Almost all known surviving episodes of the US version can be found in their entirety on YouTube.

Jeb!

Your view contrasts interestingly with the usual view (which I favor) that leftists see violence as a dial that can be turned up or down at will, while right wingers see it as a switch: either fully on or fully off.
